In light of the national mourning declared in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan following the horrific terrorist attack at Al Hmoud Church in Karak, H.E. the Austrian Ambassador Dr. Marieke Zimburg has decided to postpone the Austrian National Day Reception scheduled for 26 October 2026.

As a mark of mourning and solidarity with Jordan, the Austrian Embassy in Amman has lowered its flags to half-mast.

Austria stands in solidarity with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, its leadership and its people during these tragic times. We extend our deepest condolences to the victims’ families and loved ones and wish all those injured a full and speedy recovery.

Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragedy.

في ظل الحداد الوطني المُعلَن في المملكة الأردنية الهاشمية، إثر الهجوم الإرهابي الآثم الذي استهدف كنيسة الحمّود في الكرك، قررت سعادة السفيرة النمساوية د. ماريكيه تسمبورغ تأجيل حفل الاستقبال بمناسبة العيد الوطني النمساوي، الذي كان مقرراً إقامته غداً، يوم الإثنين 26 تشرين الأول 2026.

وقامت السفارة النمساوية في عمان بتنكيس أعلامها، تعبيراً عن الحزن والتضامن مع الأردن وقيادته وشعبه.

وتعرب النمسا عن بالغ حزنها إزاء هذه المأساة، وتتقدم بأصدق مشاعر التعازي والمواساة إلى أسر الضحايا وذويهم، سائلةً الله أن يتغمد أرواح الضحايا بواسع رحمته، وأن يمنّ على المصابين بالشفاء العاجل، وأن يحفظ الأردن وشعبه من كل سوء.

The Austrian Embassy in Amman unequivocally condemns the heinous terrorist attack against the mourners at the Greek Orthodox Church of Saint George in Karak, Jordan.

We extend our deepest condolences to the victims’ families and stand in solidarity with the Jordanian people. We wish the injured a swift recovery.

Terrorism, hatred, and violence especially against places of worship must never be tolerated. Protecting human life, religious freedom, and peaceful coexistence is a shared responsibility.

تدين السفارة النمساوية عمان بأشدّ العبارات الهجوم الإرهابي الآثم الذي استهدف كنيسة القديس جاورجيوس للروم الأرثوذكس في الكرك، الأردن.

‎نتقدّم بأحرّ التعازي إلى أسر الضحايا وذويهم، ونعرب عن تضامننا الكامل مع الشعب الأردني وقيادته، ومتمنّين الشفاء العاجل للمصابين.

‎لا مكان للإرهاب والكراهية والعنف خصوصاً ضد دور العبادة. إن حماية الأرواح وصون حرية الدين والمعتقد وتعزيز التعايش السلمي مسؤولية مشتركة لا تقبل المساومة.

هل تحمل شهادة البكالوريوس أو الماجستير في العلوم الطبيعية أو الرياضيات؟ يوجه معهد العلوم و التكنولوجيا بالنمسا الخريجين المتميزين للتقديم على برامج الدكتوراه الممولة بالكامل. يجمع هذا البرنامج متعدد التخصصات بين البحث العلمي و دراسة المقررات الأكاديمية مع توفير اشراف أكاديمي وثيق من نخبة أعضاء هيئة التدريس ذوي المستوى العالمي في مختلف التخصصات.

يعتبر معهد العلوم و التكنولوجيا بالنمسا من المعاهد الرائدة على المستوى الدولي في مجال البحث و التعليم العالي بالنسبة للعلوم الطبيعية و الرياضيات و يقع بالقرب من مدينة فيينا بالنمسا.

We are delighted to invite advanced cello students and young professional cellists from across the region to an online masterclass with Austrian cellist Jeremias Fliedl. Over two days, participants will work closely with Jeremias Fliedl on their individual playing, musical interpretation and technical development. The masterclass gives participants the chance to receive personalised feedback and connect with fellow young musicians from the region.

F o r m a t: The masterclass will take place in a group setting, with each participant receiving a 45-minute individual session with Jeremias Fliedl. Participants are expected to attend both days.

A b o u t: Jeremias Fliedl is an Austrian cellist who has performed as a soloist and chamber musician at major festivals and concert halls across Europe. He studied with renowned cellists including Heinrich Schiff, Clemens Hagen and Julian Steckel and is a laureate of several international competitions, including the 2022 Queen Elisabeth Competition, where he was the first Austrian cellist to receive the title of laureate. تظهر هذه الصورة و التي تعود الى عام ۱۹٥٠ مشهدا ساحرا من احتفال "كيرشتاج" النمساوي التقليدي و هو مهرجان قروي يقام عادة للاحتفال بالكنيسة المحلية أو شفيعها أو ذكرى تكريسها. يقوم الباعة باعداد و بيع "قلوب الليبكوخن" المزخرفة وهى حلوى مصنوعة من الزنجبيل على شكل قلوب غالبا ما تزين بعبارات ورسائل تحمل مشاعر المودة.
لطالما كانت هذه الحلوى الشهية جزءا محبوبا من المهرجانات و الاحتفالات الشعبية في النمسا.
كانت أكشاك من هذا النوع جزءا أساسيا من أجواء احتفال الـ "كيرشتاج" حيث تتفقد العائلات أنواع الحلوى المصنوعة يدويا و كان الأطفال يستمتعون بمشاهد الزخارف الملونة بينما يتبادل الأصدقاء هدايا صغيرة تعبيرا عن المودة. تظهر صور من هذا النوع كيف تضافرت الحرف اليدوية و أجواء الاحتفال لتشكل الطابع الدافىء و الأصيل للحياة في القرى النمساوية .

A glimpse into an evening of Austrian cinema, storytelling and dialogue at . 🇦🇹 🎬

The evening marked the Jordan premiere of “To Close Your Eyes and See Fire” by Nicola von Leffern and Jakob Carl Sauer; a powerful documentary offering an intimate portrait of life in Beirut in the aftermath of the August 2020 port explosion.

Moving between grief and anger, intimacy and everyday moments of joy, the film asks a deeply human question: how do people continue to live, create and hope in the aftermath of collective trauma?

Following the screening, we were honoured to welcome Nicola and Jakob to Amman for a conversation on the making of the film, the people and encounters that shaped it, and their experience of spending three years documenting life in Beirut.

Our deepest gratitude to Her Royal Highness Princess Rym Ali for her gracious patronage of the European Film Festival.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us; for your openness, thoughtful reflections and the conversations that continued beyond the screening.

The Edith Saurer Fund awards research grants of €5,000–20,000 to scholars with a PhD working on ongoing historical research projects addressing social inequality in relation to gender, class, and culture. Projects focusing on Europe from the early modern period to the 20th century, particularly those using comparative and transnational approaches, are especially encouraged.

TARGET GROUP: PhD holders, postdocs, and researchers in the humanities, particularly history and related interdisciplinary fields.

ELIGIBILITY: Projects must be ongoing and address social inequality from a historical perspective, with a particular focus on gender, class, and culture. Comparative and transnational research is particularly encouraged.

FUNDING: €5,000–20,000 per project.

DURATION: Projects should generally be completed within 2 years.

APPLICATION PERIOD: 1 October – 31 December 2026

Applications may be submitted in German or English.
