FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction National Youth Congress (MDRNYC) extends its sincere congratulations to the President of the Republic of Liberia on the nomination of Mr. Jonathan K. Weedor as Chairman of the National Elections Commission (NEC).

We believe this nomination represents a significant step toward strengthening Liberia’s democratic institutions. The credibility of electoral bodies remains central to public trust and the legitimacy of governance. Mr. Weedor’s professional background and demonstrated commitment to public service position him to uphold the principles of fairness, transparency, and accountability in the electoral process.

The MDR emphasizes that democratic resilience depends on strong institutions and strict adherence to constitutional order. The NEC must continue to operate as an impartial body, ensuring that all electoral processes are conducted with integrity and in full compliance with the law.

We call on all stakeholders—including political parties, civil society, and citizens—to support the confirmation process in a spirit of unity and national responsibility. Respect for the Constitution and the rule of law must remain paramount.

At this critical moment in Liberia’s development, the MDR urges all actors to reject divisive rhetoric and political opportunism. Sustained national progress requires cooperation, constructive dialogue, and a shared commitment to peace and stability.

The MDRNYC reaffirms its unwavering dedication to promoting democratic values, institutional integrity, and inclusive development for all Liberians.

While sitting with the MDR Youth National Secretary General and War Room Lead Staff Edwin C. Simpson, the Representative-Elect Kortor Kwagru, upon his arrival in Ganta, visited the MDR War Room to extend his heartfelt thanks to all members of the MDR and the peace-loving people of District #5, Nimba County. He called for unity within the party and clarified that those who thought the MDR would not support him were mistaken, as the massive turnout and overwhelming support from the party proved otherwise. He also praised the decision made by the Senator of Nimba, Hon. Kogar, describing it as the best choice for his candidacy, noting that many of those who contested in the race had, in one way or another, supported him during the senatorial election. Once again, congratulations to us all.
