This city comes alive in our literature. Discover Vilnius through the novel "Vilnius Poker" by Ričardas Gavelis, first published in 1989 ♦️

This novel blends authentic and fictional events, using bold literary language to delve into Lithuanian history and spirit. Vilnius is portrayed as an entire world, appearing as both a ghost town and a dream city ♣️

You can find this book in English at Vilnius University Library.

In Lithuania, work-life balance is not just a motivational poster in the office kitchen — it is backed by law. 🌴

The usual workweek is 40 hours, breaks are mandatory, and you should get at least 11 hours to recover before the next workday.

You are also entitled to 20 working days of annual leave, because “out of office” is a legal right, not a personality trait.

Remote work can be agreed with your employer, and parents may get extra days off known as mamadienis and tėvadienis.

Work hard, rest properly, and leave a little time for cepelinai.

✔️ Get it in writing, in two copies
✔️ It should be in Lithuanian + a language you understand
✔️ Check your salary meets the minimum wage (€1,153/month gross in 2026)
✔️ Confirm your working hours — usually 40h/week
✔️ Know your contract starts the day you start work

International student in Vilnius? Your experience could help shape a better city for students like you. 🤭

We’re inviting international Bachelor’s and Master’s students to join a small online focus group and share what living and studying in Vilnius is really like. The discussion will cover expectations, quality of life, integration and experiences with the city and employers.

You can apply if:
- you study in English,
- are not on an exchange programme,
- and have lived in Vilnius for at least six months.

The questionnaire takes just 3–5 minutes:
