The latest EU score: 63.4 out of 100.
That is 10.5 points higher than in 2010, but at the current renewed pace, full gender equality in the EU is still at least 50 years away.

Care is everyone's responsibility.

Behind every statistic is someone balancing work, family and caring responsibilities. Yet care responsibilities are still far from equally shared.

Across the EU, our latest findings show that, 41% of women providing childcare spend 35 or more hours a week caring for children, compared with 20% of men.

Closing these gaps is essential for stronger communities and a more equal Europe.

Can legislation alone counter anti-gender narratives?

According to Lina Gálvez, Member of the European Parliament, legislation is where change begins, but it is not where it ends.

Gender equality needs to be considered throughout the policymaking process, from developing laws and implementing them to deciding how public funding is allocated.

As discussions on the European Union's next long-term budget continue, she argues this is an opportunity to make gender equality part of every policy, not only those designed specifically to advance equality.

Equality starts at home.

When care responsibilities are shared more equally, everyone benefits. Families gain more balance, workplaces become more inclusive, and society becomes fairer.

Did you know that women across the EU are more likely to provide intensive childcare and long-term care. 67% of women do housework every day, compared with 46% of men, while 70% of women have one hour or less of leisure time a day, compared with 57% of men.

Sharing care more equally can help reduce these gaps, giving everyone more opportunities to participate fully at work, at home and in society.
