HRDC organises Industry consultation on the "Introductory Course in Event Management" developed by MGI

The Human Resource Development Council (HRDC) organised an industry consultation on the “Introductory Course in Event Management”, developed by the Mahatma Gandhi Institute (MGI).

The consultation facilitated by Dr. (Mrs) P. Goorimoorthee, Dr. Z. Beebeejaun-Muslum, both Senior Lecturers, from MGI was held on 09 July 2026 at the HRDC Lecture Theatre, Ebène.

The session brought together key representatives from the event management industry, who shared valuable insights and practical recommendations on the proposed programme.

This collaborative consultation aimed to align the curriculum, course content and learning outcomes with the evolving skills requirements of local enterprises and current industry practices. By engaging industry stakeholders, the HRDC continues to strengthen the relevance and quality of training programmes that support workforce development and enhance employability.

As part of the MSc in Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) programme funded under the HRDC Artificial Intelligence Skills Development Support Programme, a technical workshop was organised at the Université des Mascareignes (UdM) on “Beyond 5G: Intelligent Electromagnetic Systems for 6G Communications, Sensing and Smart Antenna Technologies’’ at the university Rose Hill campus on 08 July 2026.

The workshop was delivered by Dr Divitha Seetharamdoo, Permanent Senior Research Scientist at Université Gustave Eiffel, France. Dr Seetharamdoo shared her expertise on the emerging technologies that are shaping next-generation communication systems, intelligent infrastructure and future industrial applications.

The session provided participants with exposure to key technological developments in areas such as 5G and beyond 5G communications, 6G systems, smart antennas, electromagnetic compatibility, AI-enabled sensing systems, connected transportation, smart cities and Industrial IoT. Participants also gained insights into advanced research platforms and real-world applications supporting the design, testing and deployment of future digital infrastructure.

The workshop also highlighted the growing importance of specialised competencies such as Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), particularly in the context of connected devices, smart manufacturing, autonomous systems, intelligent transport and advanced telecommunications. These areas are becoming increasingly relevant as industries adopt more sophisticated digital and AI-enabled technologies.

Through this initiative, HRDC continues to support knowledge transfer, industry exposure and capacity-building in priority technological fields. The workshop forms part of HRDC’s broader commitment to developing a future-ready workforce and strengthening the skills base required to support Mauritius’ digital transformation, innovation agenda and transition towards a knowledge-based economy.

Skills Interface for the Light Engineering and Precision Manufacturing sector

The Human Resource Development Council (HRDC) organised a Skills Interface for the Light Engineering and Precision Manufacturing sector on 04 June 2026, which brought together industry operators, training institutions, universities and other key stakeholders to discuss the sector’s current and emerging skills and training needs.

The initiative forms part of the HRDC’s ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration between industry and training providers, while supporting the development of practical and industry-driven skills development solutions for the Mauritian manufacturing sector. Discussions focused on addressing existing skills gaps and exploring opportunities for co-designed training programmes under HRDC schemes.

With the sector increasingly shaped by automation and digitalisation, continuous skills development remains essential to improving productivity, driving innovation and strengthening the competitiveness of the local manufacturing ecosystem.

The Human Resource Development Council (HRDC) organised a Skills Interface for the Beverage Manufacturing Sector at the HRDC Lecture Theatre, Ebène on 02 June 2026.

This interactive session brought together key operators, industry associations, training providers and university representatives. It provided a valuable platform for discussions on the sector’s current and future workforce requirements, with a particular focus on strengthening collaboration between industry and training institutions, as well as promoting skills development initiatives aligned with evolving market needs.

Key areas discussed included:
• Emerging skills requirements and workforce challenges within the sector;
• Stronger partnerships between industry and training institutions;
• Better alignment between labour market demand and training provision; and
• Practical, industry-driven training solutions to support a skilled, adaptable, and sustainable workforce.

School Placement Programme (SPP) Rodrigues: Certificate Presentation Ceremony

The Human Resource Development Council (HRDC), in collaboration with the Commission for Vocational Training and Education under the Deputy Chief Commissioner’s Office, organised a Certificate Presentation Ceremony for 24 secondary school students in Rodrigues who successfully completed a two-week work placement under the HRDC's School Placement Programme (SPP).

The ceremony was held on 01 June 2026 at Le Recif Hotel, Caverne Provert, Rodrigues and celebrated the achievements of students from three secondary schools who undertook placements with 10 host organisations as part of the November 2025 SPP edition.

The event was graced by Dr. The Honourable Mahend Gungapersad, PDSM, Minister of Education and Human Resource, as Chief Guest.

This initiative highlights the HRDC’s continued commitment to providing students with meaningful workplace exposure and supporting their transition from education to the world of work.

HRDC School Placement Programme (SPP): Certificate Presentation Ceremony

The Human Resource Development Council (HRDC) hosted a Certificate Presentation Ceremony for 729 secondary school students who successfully completed a two-week work placement under the HRDC’s School Placement Programme (SPP).

Dr. The Honourable Mahend Gungapersad, PDSM, Minister of Education and Human Resource, graced the occasion as Chief Guest.

Students from 61 secondary schools gained valuable experience across 45 host organisations during the November–December 2025 edition of the Programme, a key initiative bridging education and the world of work.
