The New Era Publication Corporation engaged stakeholders from the Otjozondjupa and Kunene regions during a stakeholder engagement session held in Otjiwarongo, today.

The engagement, attended by regional councils and local authorities, forms part of New Era's nationwide stakeholder engagement campaign aimed at strengthening partnerships with government institutions and enhancing public communication.

New Era's Chief Executive Officer, Christof Maletsky said the campaign seeks to create stronger collaboration with stakeholders to ensure their stories reach the public effectively.

"We want them to tell us how best we can tell their stories," he said, adding that New Era has the mandate to tell the stories of government institutions.

Otjozondjupa Governor, John Julius //Khamuseb welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely, as effective communication, information dissemination, and public engagement remain critical to the success of development programmes.

He noted that while the region continues to implement various development projects, social initiatives, youth empowerment programmes, and economic interventions, their impact depends on visibility, transparency, and public awareness.

The Governor further urged stakeholders to provide New Era Publication Corporation with accurate, timely, and relevant information to ensure communities remain informed about the services and initiatives that affect their lives.

Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, today launched the Community Media Policy and its Implementation Plan (2026–2030) in Okakarara.

The policy provides strategic guidance on the establishment, ownership, mandate, and operations of community media organisations across Namibia.

Speaking at the launch, Theofelus said the policy seeks to create an enabling environment for the growth, sustainability, and professionalisation of community media in the country.

She noted that the policy is anchored in values central to Namibia’s democracy, including the promotion of human rights, protection of cultural diversity, encouragement of media pluralism, strengthening of social cohesion, and the advancement of peace and democracy.

“We are a diverse country with multiple cultures and many languages, but we must coexist peacefully. Namibia’s diversity has always been one of our greatest strengths, and community media gives us the platform to ensure that this diversity exists visibly, proudly, and meaningfully within the national space,” said Theofelus.

The policy is expected to contribute to national goals related to socio-economic development, media pluralism, social inclusion, and community empowerment.
