GOOD RESPONSE AS MUNICIPAL DEBT WRITE-OFF DEADLINE APPROACHES.

The Municipality of Okahandja is encouraged by the positive response from residents following the announcement of the municipal debt write-off initiative. Since the information was shared across the Municipality’s communication platforms, a growing number of eligible residents have come forward to submit their applications and supporting documents for consideration.

The encouraging turnout reflects the community's interest in making use of this opportunity, with municipal officials also assisting applicants through the submission process.

Residents are kindly reminded to ensure that all required supporting documents are properly certified and that two certified copies of each applicable document are submitted with their applications.

With the deadline of Thursday, 27 August 2026 fast approaching, all affected and eligible residents are strongly encouraged to submit their documents as soon as possible to allow sufficient time for processing.

The Municipality appreciates the cooperation of residents and encourages everyone who qualifies not to miss this important opportunity.

The Municipality of Okahandja Technical Team is currently undertaking the replacement of sewer pipes in Oshetu No. 2 as part of ongoing efforts to improve sanitation infrastructure and service delivery in the community.

Residents are kindly requested to exercise caution around the work areas, follow safety signage and cooperate with the technical team while the works are underway. The Municipality appreciates residents’ patience and cooperation as we work towards a cleaner, safer and healthier community.

Today, 6 August 2026, the Municipality of Okahandja proudly hosted the REFELA Otjozondjupa Regional Representative Election Meeting at the Municipal Council Chambers.

The meeting was officially opened by Her Worship, Councillor Ilena Mutumbulwa, Mayor of Okahandja, who warmly welcomed delegates from across the Otjozondjupa Region. The proceedings were chaired by the Chairperson of the Management Committee, Hon. Patricia Hawaes, who led the day's programme, which included an overview of the Network of Locally Elected Women of Africa (REFELA) and the election of the regional representative.

REFELA is a continental network that supports women in local government by promoting inclusive leadership, gender-responsive governance, and greater participation of women in decision-making at the local level.

The Municipality of Okahandja extends its heartfelt congratulations to Hon. Magano Johannes of the Otjiwarongo Municipality on her election as the REFELA Otjozondjupa Regional Representative. We are confident that her leadership will make a meaningful contribution to advancing women's empowerment and strengthening local governance across the region.

We thank all delegates for their participation and commitment to building stronger, more inclusive local authorities.
