Namibia's growing population is increasing the number of people entering the working-age population and, ultimately, the labour market. While population growth can support economic expansion, it also puts pressure on the economy to create enough jobs for those seeking employment.

SEPTEMBER IS SU***DE PREVENTION MONTH

Sometimes, saving a life starts with something as simple as a conversation.

An open, honest conversation can remind someone that they are not alone, that someone cares, and that there is still hope.

Along the Swakopmund Beach Walkway, you’ll find these little spaces that invite you to stop, sit and talk. Perhaps today, that conversation could be the one someone needs.

Check in. Ask how they’re really doing. Listen without judgement. Be present.

You never know the difference a conversation can make.

SKIP REMOVAL INTERRUPTIONS

Dear Residents,

Kindtake note of the temporary interruption in skip removal services due to our sole operating skip truck being temporarily out of service.

This may result in delays in the replacement of skips, particularly for collections scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, including areas such as Vineta and Waterfront.

Our maintenance team is working to repair the truck and restore normal collection schedules as soon as possible. We understand the inconvenience this may cause and sincerely appreciate your patience, understanding and cooperation during this time.

We kindly ask residents to keep skip areas accessible while repairs are underway.

Thank you for your continued cooperation.

SEWER LINE UPDATE - RAKOTOKA STREET

In the early hours of this morning, between midnight and 03:30, when sewer flows were lower, our technical team attended to the blocked drains reported in Rakotoka Street.

The team found two drains almost completely blocked and at risk of overflowing. These were successfully cleared, and a total of four drains, starting from the traffic lights and working upwards, were cleaned and unblocked.

The team will continue with the remaining drains tonight as part of the ongoing intervention.

We acknowledge the concerns raised by residents regarding the recurring sewerage problem in Rakotoka Street. While the immediate interventions are being carried out, the Municipality has also considered a long-term solution to address the problem at its source — the upgrading of the sewer line in Rakotoka Street.

The bidding process for this work is currently underway, with the closing date set for 20 September 2026.

We apologise to residents for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding while our teams continue working to address the issue.

WELLNESS WEEK 2026 - DON’T JUST WORK WELL. LIVE WELL.

The Municipality of Swakopmund wrapped up a vibrant Wellness Week 2026, held from 31 August to 4 September 2026, with a focus on health, prevention, wellbeing, connection and, of course, FUN!

Throughout the week, employees had the opportunity to participate in health screenings and the Employee Health & Wellness Survey, encouraging everyone to take a proactive approach to their health and wellbeing.

The week came to a lively close today with a 3KM Fun Run/Walk, bringing colleagues together for an afternoon of movement, laughter, team spirit and connection.

With music, food stalls, fun activities, refreshments and exciting prizes, employees stepped away from their daily routines to recharge and enjoy time with colleagues.

A special THANK YOU to our generous sponsors whose contributions helped make the Wellness Week finale even more memorable:

• DeoPharma (Petri) – Water Point
• The Dome Gym – One-month free gym memberships for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd finishers
• Fit 4 Life with Nic – Nutrition & Lifestyle Consultation and Action Plan voucher
• Keanu Engelbrecht – 3 x Personal Training vouchers
• Activate Print & Design – Lucky Draw voucher
• Fusion Wellness & Spa – 45-minute Back & Neck Massage voucher
• Metro – Sponsorship of Jungle Bars

Your support helped us create an atmosphere that encouraged our employees to move, connect, have fun and prioritise their wellbeing. We truly appreciate your partnership and generosity.

Wellness is more than a screening , it’s about prevention, movement, mental wellbeing, connection and taking care of yourself.

Thank you to every employee who participated and contributed to making Wellness Week 2026 a success.

Don’t just work well. LIVE WELL.
