NATIONAL COUNCIL STANDING COMMITTEE ON TRANSPORT, INFRASTRUCTURE AND HOUSING CONSULTATION AND PUBLIC HEARING ON ROAD ACCIDENTS IN NAMIBIA CURRENTLY UNDERWAY

The National Council Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Housing Consultation and Public Hearing on Road Accidents in Namibia is currently underway at the Erongo Regional Council Chambers in Swakopmund.

Consultation is being led by the Chairperson of the National Council Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Housing, Honourable George Garab, and has brought together representatives from local authorities, road safety stakeholders, farmers, community members and other key partners to deliberate on practical measures aimed at reducing road traffic accidents and fatalities in Namibia.

The engagement provides stakeholders with an opportunity to share experiences, identify challenges and contribute recommendations that will support the strengthening of road safety interventions across the country.

VELDFIRE AWARENESS - FIRE SEASON IS HERE

The Erongo Regional Council calls on all residents to remain vigilant and take the necessary precautions to prevent veldfires during the current fire season.

Veldfires pose a serious risk to lives, livestock, property, grazing land and the environment. By adopting safe practices and reporting fires promptly, we can reduce the risk of devastating losses and protect our communities.

We encourage everyone to read the attached Fire Safety Tips and play their part in preventing veldfires.

📌REMINDER📌: FINAL DAY TO COLLECT 2027 PRE-PRIMARY AND GRADE 1 APPLICATION FORMS

The Erongo Regional Council's Directorate of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture reminds all parents and guardians that today, Monday, 27 July 2026, is the final day to collect application forms for 2027 Pre-Primary (children born in 2021) and Grade 1 (children born in 2020) admissions.

Application forms may be collected from:

-Swakopmund Teachers Resource Centre
-Walvis Bay Circuit Office
-Constituency Offices
-Police Stations
-ERC website: www.erc.com.na

Parents and guardians are encouraged to complete and submit their applications before the submission deadline of 30 July 2026 at either the Swakopmund Teachers Resource Centre or the Walvis Bay Circuit Office.

Parents and Guardians are invited to apply for 2027 Pre-Primary and Grade 1 admissions in the Erongo Region from Tuesday, 21 July 2026 to Monday, 27 July 2026.

Application forms are free of charge and are available at designated collection points across the region. Parents are encouraged to submit their applications within the prescribed period.

Please note that admissions are not processed on a first-come, first-served basis, and late applications will not be considered.

Successful placement outcomes will be communicated on 20 August 2026.

COURTESY VISIT TO DISCUSS ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE IN THE ERONGO REGION

Earlier this week, the Erongo Regional Council welcomed the Deputy Minister of Works and Transport, Hon. Hans Haikali, on a courtesy visit to the Council.

Hon. Haikali was received by Karibib Constituency Councillor who serves as the Chairperson of the Erongo Regional Council, Hon. Lazarus Kanelombe, together with Hon. Inecia Brandt, Deputy Minister of Justice and Labour Relations & Councillor for the Dâures Constituency, Hon. Abiud Kapere, Councillor for the Arandis Constituency and the Chief Regional Officer, Dr. Mupenzeni Ntelamo.

The engagement provided an opportunity to discuss the current condition of roads across the Erongo Region, priority road infrastructure projects, and areas of mutual interest aimed at improving the region's road network through continued collaboration.

A MEAL, A SMILE, A COMMUNITY THAT CARES

Hope was shared and hearts were touched today as Swakopmund Constituency Councillor, Hon. Maswahu handed over food parcels to beneficiaries from the DRC Settlement, made possible through the generous sponsorship of Beifang Mining Techno Services.

The donation brought much-needed support to the beneficiaries and reflected the value of caring partnerships in responding to the needs of vulnerable communities.

SWAKOPMUND CONSTITUENCY HOLDS THIRD CDC AND CDRMC MEETINGS

Hon. Victor Maswahu, Swakopmund Constituency Councillor, chaired the third Constituency Development Committee (CDC) and Constituency Disaster Risk Management Committee (CDRMC) meetings today.

During the engagement, capital projects for the 2026/2027 financial year were tabled and presented to CDC members for discussion and consideration as part of the constituency's development planning process.

Together, stakeholders continue working towards coordinated and sustainable development for the Swakopmund Constituency.
