Council facilities will be impacted by a planned power outage Ōwaka - Wednesday 30 September 2026, 9am to 3.30pm, as a result of work taking place in Ovenden Street.

Ōwaka Community Library and Catlins Information Centre, and Ōwaka Community Centre will be closed.

An alternative date for the planned outage is the following day, Thursday 1 October.

We will provide an update if anything changes.

🟡You may have already seen our Waste Team about, taking a wee peek inside your recycling bins, to check that we’re making the effort to Recycle Right.
You’ll be stickered according to how you’re doing with a green, orange or red sticker. Keep those plastic bags, soft plastics, lids and household waste, green waste, glass etc, out of the recycling bin, and you’ll be recycling right!
Our normal three strikes contamination system continues alongside the bin audit, which will be ongoing.

Mt Cooee Landfill has been closed this afternoon due to high winds at the tip face, and gusts reaching 83km p/h. ​

As always, we will update this post if the landfill reopens later this afternoon. Sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause.

We are expecting there to be some delays with kerbside collection for the remainder of this week, due to driver availability.

If your bin was out before 7am and has not been collected yet, please leave it out - the collection truck will still be coming to get it.

If your bin has not been collected by mid-morning the following day, please let us know. You can phone us on 0800 801 350, or report it via the Antenno app.

Have you registered for Second Hand Sunday yet?

Dust off those no-longer-needed treasures and pass them on!

Second Hand Sunday is a free, annual event coming up on Sunday 4 October, where residents can put unwanted items out on their driveway for others to collect.

You can also collect items you want from others for free, helping reduce what might otherwise end up at the landfill. Win-win. ♻️

This is your final week to register, to ensure people know where to find your items.

We will be printing a list of participating addresses in the Clutha Leader and other community papers next week, so the earlier you get your registration in the better (to meet print deadlines).

We will also publish a list of participating addresses here on Facebook a few days before the event.

As we approach the one-year anniversary in October of last year’s significant wind event, many people across the Clutha District are still dealing with the clean-up and impacts on their properties.
We know our district is resilient, but events like this are a reminder of how important it is to look ahead, understand the risks we may face, and plan for the future.
I encourage everyone to take a few minutes to check out Otago Regional Council’s The Otago Climate Story, including the summary focused on the Clutha District.
It shares information about what changing weather patterns could mean for our communities, farms, roads, waterways and coastline — including heavier rainfall, coastal erosion, storm damage and seasonal changes.
The more we understand, the better prepared we can be as a district.

What’s On In Clutha Clutha District Libraries

We're disappointed to see ongoing damage to grassed reserve land in the Toko Mouth area, where vehicle tyre marks and damage to Council land have been reported during the past week.
We have received reports from residents who have witnessed vehicles driving on reserve areas and causing damage. Some incidents have also been reported to New Zealand Police.
Deliberate damage to public spaces may constitute an offence and can result in unnecessary repair costs that are ultimately borne by the wider community.
Our parks, reserves, and public spaces are there for everyone to enjoy. We ask that everyone treats these shared areas with care and respect so they can continue to be enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.
