Last Friday we had 2 teams compete at the annual Waikato Literacy Book Battle. This included 24 teams from across the Waikato. Our teams did us proud in a very close, well fought battle, coming 4th and 9th. Well done to our teams! A big shout out to our coach Sarah Penny for supporting and preparing our teams so well for the battle.

It was a great day for the interschool cross country at Porritt Stadium. 23 Hukanui students were ready to compete against the best from the other local schools. The track was soft from all the rain but the kids were race ready and eager to get underway. The Y4 competitiors had to run 1.5 km, while the Y6 children had 2.5 km. Notable results were: Tiare second in the Y4 boys, Thabisa second in the Y6 boys, Kingsley first in the Y5 girls and Jonty first in the Y5 boys. A massive thank you to the team of parents who helped with transport to get us to the event.

➡️ Even if your child is still at pre-school/ kindy, please complete the online enrolment form on our website, or contact the friendly team in the office.
➡️ We have regular school tours, and these visits are for any prospective families, families considering moving in zone, or for future new entrant students.
Our next school tour is held on Tuesday 8th September 11:15 am.

It was fantastic to welcome back former student Jana on Friday!

Jana is currently studying for a Biology & Chemistry degree at the University of Canterbury and works as a summer Field Inspector for Eurogrow Potatoes.

She spoke with our Enviro Councillors about her studies, career pathway, and the important role science plays in food production. To top it off, she brought along some finished potato products—potato chips—for everyone to enjoy!

Our annual Lip Sync Competition was held today, and this year was hands-down our biggest and boldest yet. We had 11 incredible groups take the stage, bringing absolute heat with their choreography, outrageous costumes, and flawless fake-singing.

Just when we thought the competition was over, to our surprise a flash mob (Teachers and Principal) crashed the stage to steal the show! Who knew they had those Michael Jackson dance moves hidden up their sleeves? 💃🕺 There was even moonwalking!

A huge round of applause to all 11 competing teams for pouring their hearts into their performances, and a massive thank you to everyone who came out to cheer, laugh, and support. Special thanks to Tim Haines and Erin Walcroft for their organisation and our judges who hard the hard decision to choose the winners.

Daffodil Day reminds us that cancer touches many lives in our community, while the vibrant yellow bloom continues to stand as a powerful symbol of hope. Throughout the week, our students explored the meaning behind this special day, with several classes visiting Hukanui Oaks Park to admire the daffodils and connect their learning through art, reading, writing, and math.💛
