On Friday we had Grandparents Day. We welcomed whānau in our assembly where we were entertained by our Kapa Haka and had classes sharing art, maths and singing. We are so lucky to have the support of whānau and our students were excited to have you here. We are also very grateful to parents and grandparents who supported our Book Fair.

The Ministry of Education are trialling a Maths Practice site for Year 3-8 until December this year. You can use the website to help your child practise what they have learned at school.

It is best to work together on the year level your child has just finished at school, not the year they're about to start.
Short, regular sessions will help build confidence with Maths. This can be 10 to 15 minutes sessions, 3 to 5 times a week.
After your child completes each question or puzzle, you will see a summary page suggesting next steps.
You can use the Maths practice site on your tablet, laptop or phone.

Year 7/8 Sports Update 🏉🏐

It has been a busy couple of weeks for our Year 7/8 students at Matapu School, with a large group of our kids representing us at the 7s and Winter Tournaments!

Rugby 7s: A huge thank you to St Joseph’s Hāwera and St Joseph’s Stratford for combining with us so our students could compete. Our Girls' team had an incredible run, making it all the way to the final against Te Paepae o Aotea and finishing an impressive 2nd overall after a narrowly fought match.

Winter Tournament: We sent both a soccer and a netball team to compete. A massive congratulations to our netball team, who won all of their games and earned the right to host the final right here at school! Keep an eye out for more details soon.

A giant thank you to all the parents and teachers who helped with coaching and transport—we couldn't do it without you.

The SPA have teamed up with Doughboys bakery and are selling family sized pies. All funds raised will go towards our Beach Education Programme and essential school resources, enriching learning opportunities for everyone.

Year 4-6 Winter Tournament!

Huge congratulations to our incredible Winter Tournament teams who competed in the South Schools Cluster Tournament on Wednesday!

Our students did an absolute amazing job, proudly demonstrating our RAISE Values throughout the entire day. We saw some fantastic results across the board:

🏉 Rugby & Netball: Both teams fought hard all the way to the finals, narrowly missing out on the top trophy!

⚽ Soccer: Secured a fantastic 3rd-place finish!

A massive thank you to our kids for their outstanding sportsmanship and the brilliant way they conducted themselves. We also want to extend a huge shoutout to our coaches for guiding and supporting them on the day.

A massive thank you to everyone who came out to support our production. It was wonderful to see so many faces from our wider community in the audience!

We are incredibly proud of our students. They worked so hard as a team, looked absolutely vibrant on stage, and performed with so much confidence. Having the opportunity to participate in the performing arts is so important for our young people. It gives them a unique platform to step out of their comfort zones, express themselves, and truly shine!

An event like this truly takes a village, and I want to extend a huge thank you to our amazing teachers and support staff who worked tirelessly to prepare and support our students.

I also want to give a special shout-out to:
🎬 Miss D and Miss B for their massive behind-the-scenes effort.
🔊 Mr. Hughes for doing a brilliant job running the sound and lighting!
