A rare opportunity to help shape, build and grow our café and events offering at Waitangi Treaty Grounds.

We’re looking for an experienced Head Chef to support the opening of a new café, lead our kitchen team and establish exceptional standards across café service, events and functions.

Key responsibilities will include:
• Leading day-to-day kitchen operations across café and events
• Developing menus and maintaining high food-quality standards
• Managing food safety, stock, inventory and cost control
• Building, training and developing a strong kitchen team
• Leading food delivery for functions and major events

🌺 Midway through flowering season, a little winter beauty at Waitangi.

The Busby Camellias, planted during the time of James and Agnes Busby in the early 1830s, have been part of the Waitangi landscape for almost 200 years. Hidden within a sheltered gully beneath a canopy of native trees, they are among the oldest known camellias in New Zealand.

It is with great sadness we acknowledge the passing of a much-loved member of the Waitangi community, Richard Takimoana, known to many kaimahi as ‘Uncle Rich’.

Richard was the Team Leader of the Grounds & Maintenance team. Just a few weeks ago, we had the privilege of celebrating his retirement alongside his whānau. We are grateful to have had that opportunity to recognise him and his contribution to Waitangi.

He epitomised what it is to be kaitiaki, having dedicated almost two decades caring for this whenua and taking great pride in the responsibility of looking after this special place.
Richard was a lynch-pin for the organisation and delivery of Waitangi Day events throughout his time at Waitangi. He would be seen everywhere from helping launch the waka before the events started to bringing down the last marquees the day after Waitangi Day.

Gentle, kind, and deeply respected, Uncle Rich will be remembered not only for his long service and knowledge, but for the person he was.

Our aroha is with his whānau and all who knew him.🤎

1 August, 1987 we acknowledge the collective efforts which led to Te Reo Māori being recognised as an official language of Aotearoa.

In 1985, the Waitangi Tribunal heard the ‘WAI11 Māori Language Claim’ which asserted te reo Māori as a taonga.

This brought about both the establishment of Te Taura Whiri i Te Reo Māori (Māori Language Commission) and the Māori Language Act of 1987.
