📸📸Friday Flashback...Rescue Gear
In 1989 The Brigade acquired it's very own set of specialized Homaltro rescue Tools thanks so a local Hotelier who had become concerned about the number of vehicle accidents on State Highway One. With the help of the Pub Charity gaming Machines he helped Woodend to fund their very first rescue Tools.
🚒The brigade however was not acknowledged as a Pump Rescue Tender (PRT) at the time as it was not a fire district in its own right and did not have approval.
👨🏽‍🚒The Brigade took it upon themselves to get specialist training in the use of their tools and between 1989 and 1992 the brigade attended 31 Motor Vehicle accidents and had used the equipment 28 of those times.
📸They even entered and won a worldwide photo competition with the Dutch Brand Homaltro of the crew by the Tram in central Christchurch with their Gear.
🔥Today we still carry and regularly use Specialised Rescue Gear on our PRT made by Homaltro. If you are at the Woodend School Fair this Saturday come and see us and have a look.

Lithium-ion Battery Safety Reminder
🔥Rechargeable lithium-ion batteries are increasingly found everywhere, from e-bikes and e-scooters to v**es, power tools, and our kids’ toys. With this increase in rechargeable batteries, we are also seeing a significant rise of battery fire incidents in Aotearoa and around the world.
Here are a few safety tips to remember...
📱Phone - Charge your phone on a hard, flat surface.
🛴E-Scooter - Incorrectly charging your E-scooter can cause violent fire. Do not attempt to extinguish. Evacuate immediately and call 111.
General message
♨Vape - Always charge your v**e on a hard, flat surface to avoid it overheating and causing a violent fire.
✅Always use the correct charger and correct battery to prevent a violent battery fire. Never charge batteries near exits because they could block your escape route.

😲Did you know...our siren doesn't always sound! In fact, between 7pm at night and 7am in the morning our brigade respond by pagers/phone alerts. Which is why you rarely hear our siren at night. So although you may think we do not attend any calls at night, this is because you won't necessarily hear the siren.

📸📸Friday Flashback....Woodend School Fair 2025
😍We just love heading along to the annual Woodend School Fair so it goes without saying that we will be there again this year on Saturday 19th September.
🔥We will have all the usual favorites including the Kitchen Fire Demonstration and the Escape my house maze.
👨‍🚒It a great chance to meet the Crew and ask any questions you might have. Especially if you have ever thought about joining us or one of your local brigades we are happy to have a chat about what we do.
🚒Of course the Fire Truck will be there too
