🎓 From Cebu to Japan: A New Journey Begins in a Special Year of Friendship! ✈️🇯🇵

The Philippine Alliance of Japan MEXT Scholars (Philajames Cebu) successfully held a Pre-Departure Orientation (PDO) for the autumn-departing MEXT scholars, bringing together aspiring scholars who are preparing to begin their academic journey in Japan.

This year is especially meaningful as the Philippines and Japan celebrate the 70th Anniversary of Friendship and Diplomatic Relations. 🇵🇭🤝🇯🇵 As these scholars embark on their journey to Japan, they will not only pursue knowledge and new experiences, but also become part of the growing people-to-people ties that connect our two countries.

Deputy-Consul General Yasuko KURIHARA shared words of encouragement with the scholars and commended Philajames Cebu for its continued efforts in supporting and preparing future MEXT scholars for their journey.

Former MEXT scholars from Cebu also shared their firsthand experiences, practical advice, and lessons from their time in Japan, giving the departing scholars valuable insights into what awaits them—from academic life to everyday experiences and building meaningful connections in Japan. 🇯🇵✨

Three departing scholars attended were Ms. Andrea Cempron (Research category), Mr. Clint Daryll Suarez (Research Category) and Mr. Matthew Gavin Gutierrez (Undergraduate category). To all our autumn-departing MEXT scholars: your journey from Cebu to Japan is about to begin! 🎒✈️

Starting this month, our resident chef will be introducing you to some unique and beautiful Japanese cuisine!

Today’s special is “Hana-Gasumi” (花霞)—a name inspired by the delicate sight of cherry blossoms in full bloom, appearing pale and hazy from a distance. 🌸

Served in a lacquer soup bowl, the dish features shrimp coated in kudzu jelly, accompanied by a clear soup and delicate, edible flower petals. Every element is carefully arranged to evoke the beauty of a spring landscape.
