𝐀𝐥𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐚, 𝐂𝐞𝐛𝐮. — Happening Now: The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Region 7, is on-site today to supervise the Local and Overseas Job Fair at the Poblacion Covered Court in Alcantara, Cebu.

Mayor Fritz C. Lastimoso, in his message of support, encouraged jobseekers to keep moving forward, emphasizing that simply showing up is already a testament to their determination.

Also supporting the activity are Vice Mayor Larry Llenos and Hon. Artudio C. Lumapay, who expressed their support for initiatives that connect jobseekers with legitimate employment opportunities.

Four DMW-licensed recruitment agencies are participating in the job fair, offering overseas employment opportunities in the UAE, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Papua New Guinea, and Madagascar.

Ms. Sharmaine C. Arcete, Labor and Employment Officer II, supervises the conduct of the activity.

Negros Oriental, Philippines. Today, the Department of Migrant Workers Regional Office VII (DMW RO-VII) joins the House of Representatives in the “LegisHear: Bawat Batas Mahalaga” – Visayas League being held at the Negros Oriental State University in Dumaguete City.

Representing DMW RO-VII is Regional Director Jhoaden G. Lucero, together with DMW-NIR Regional Director Glenda M. Aligonza, alongside representatives from various government agencies, students, and program beneficiaries.

LegisHear is the House of Representatives’ flagship nationwide legislative consultation and oversight initiative that brings Congress and government services closer to the people. It provides a platform for citizens to voice their concerns, share their experiences, and help shape policies that respond to their needs, while also bringing government services directly to communities.

Through its participation, DMW RO-VII continues to bring its programs and services closer to OFWs, their families, and communities in Negros Oriental, ensuring that every migrant worker’s voice is heard and every concern receives appropriate attention.

The Department of Migrant Workers Regional Office No. VII (DMW RO VII) and the Department of Trade and Industry Regional Office VII (DTI RO VII) formalized their partnership today, August 12, 2026, through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the implementation of the One Window Bayanihan Assistance Program (OWBAP) for OFWs and their families in Central Visayas.

The MOA signing marks another significant step toward stronger inter-agency cooperation and a more coordinated delivery of reintegration, livelihood, and entrepreneurship assistance to returning OFWs in Region VII

DMW RO VII Regional Director Jhoaden G. Lucero expressed her appreciation to DTI RO VII, led by Acting Regional Director Esperanza T. L. Melgar, for supporting the initiative. She emphasized the importance of collaboration in providing sustainable opportunities for returning OFWs.

Meanwhile, DTI RO VII Acting Regional Director Melgar expressed DTI’s commitment to becoming an active partner in the implementation of OWBAP. She emphasized that DTI’s mandate to promote entrepreneurship and expand business opportunities complements DMW’s efforts to support returning OFWs and their families.

Through this collaboration, DMW RO VII and DTI RO VII reaffirm their shared commitment to providing responsive, accessible, and sustainable assistance to OFWs and their families. The partnership underscores the government’s continuing efforts to ensure that returning migrant workers are supported not only in their transition home but also in building productive and sustainable livelihoods in the country.

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) successfully brought together more than a hundred OFW entrepreneurs in Region VII who seek to level up their businesses through digital payment solutions using GCash. The initiative provides participating OFW entrepreneurs with an opportunity to explore digital tools that support more efficient, convenient, and accessible business transactions.

Implemented under the Buy Lokal, By OFWs (BLBO) program, the initiative held yesterday, is a partnership between the Department of Migrant Workers and GCash that aims to support start-up OFW entrepreneurs in digitalizing their payment options and improving their business operations. Through this collaboration, participating OFW entrepreneurs gain practical knowledge on using GCash for business transactions, helping them become more familiar and confident with digital payment solutions while providing their customers with easier and more convenient ways to transact.

The DMW continues to strengthen programs and partnerships that empower OFW entrepreneurs, promote digitalization, and create opportunities for sustainable enterprise development. Through initiatives such as the BLBO, the Department helps OFW entrepreneurs enhance their businesses, adapt to the evolving digital economy, and build more competitive and sustainable enterprises for the future.

Cebu City, Philippines. The Department of Migrant Workers Regional Office VII (DMW RO-VII) extended assistance for the proper receipt, handling, and transfer of the remains of a seafarer at the Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA).

The initiative was jointly done on Saturday, 08 August 2026, together with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Regional Welfare Office VII (OWWA RWO-VII), the Cebu City Public Employment Service Office (PESO) or Department of Manpower Development and Placement (DMDP), and the concerned Philippine Recruitment Agency (PRA).

The DMW RO-VII extends its deepest sympathies to the bereaved family and will ensure a facilitative processing of further financial assistance that the family may avail of from the office.

Under the Kalinga Framework of the Reintegration Program of DMW, the Department strives to ensure that the dignity, welfare, and rights of every OFW and their family are upheld, even in the most difficult times.

Bohol, Philippines. On August 8, 2026, the Department of Migrant Workers Regional Office VII (DMW RO-VII), in coordination with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Regional Welfare Office VII (OWWA RWO-VII), facilitated the safe return of an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) from Malta who is currently battling a medical condition.

The OFW, referred to as “Joy” (not her real name), arrived at the Bohol-Panglao International Airport accompanied by her sister. Joy previously worked in Malta as a caregiver before being diagnosed with her medical condition.

DMW RO-VII Labor and Employment Officers II Michael Niño A. Dela Calzada and Dennis M. Galorio and OWWA RWO-VII personnel led by Nurse Jessica L. Calimbayan provided immediate assistance upon the OFW’s debarkation, monitored her condition, and facilitated transportation to her residence to ensure her safe transfer from the airport. Upon their arrival, the team briefed the family on the documentary requirements for the application for financial and medical assistance under the programs and services available through DMW and OWWA.

Joy’s family expressed their heartfelt gratitude to DMW and OWWA for the assistance extended throughout her return. They likewise conveyed their appreciation to the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Rome and the Honorary Consulate in Malta for their continued support and coordination from the time Joy was assisted overseas until her safe return to the Philippines.

Through strong and close coordination among government offices overseas and in the Philippines, DMW remains committed to ensuring that Filipino migrant workers in need receive timely assistance and support, from their time abroad through their safe return, recovery, and reintegration with their families.

Cebu City, Philippines. On 07 August 2026, the Department of Migrant Workers Regional Office VII (DMW RO VII), in partnership with BDO Unibank, Inc. (BDO), successfully conducted another Financial Awareness Seminar-Small Business Management Training (FAS-SBMT), benefiting thirty-seven (37) returning Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who are applicants of the Enhanced Livelihood Program for OFW Reintegration (ELPOR).

The activity aims to ensure that livelihood assistance goes beyond financial support by equipping returning OFWs with essential financial literacy and entrepreneurial skills. By strengthening their capacity to manage finances and build sustainable businesses, the program ensures that OFWs and their families can thrive as they begin anew.

Representing Regional Director Jhoaden G. Lucero, Assistant Regional Director Atty. Rex A. Tadena expressed his admiration and gratitude for the sacrifices and contributions of OFWs to the country. He highlighted the significant role of OFWs in supporting the Philippine economy, particularly through their remittances.

The financial literacy session was facilitated by Ms. Ave Hosanna Hannah Abejo, together with Ms. Gina Sogue, Branch Head of BDO Network Bank-Compostela, Mr. Art Bondoc, Branch Head of BDO Network Bank-Cebu City, Ms. Lea Labuen, and Ms. Snowie Fate Singson. Ms. Abejo highlighted the importance of prudent financial management and shared practical strategies on handling finances, saving, and investing. These tips are valuable tools to help OFWs achieve sustainable livelihoods and a successful reintegration journey.

DMW RO VII also expressed its heartfelt appreciation to its National Reintegration Network (NRN) partner, BDO Unibank, Inc., for generously sharing its expertise and providing valuable financial guidance to the returning OFWs

Through strengthened partnerships with government agencies, local government units, and private institutions, DMW continues to develop initiatives that uplift and empower OFWs and support their successful reintegration into their communities.

𝑫𝒂𝒖𝒊𝒔, 𝑩𝒐𝒉𝒐𝒍. The Department of Migrant Workers Regional Office VII (DMW RO VII), through its Bohol Provincial Office, monitored the Local and Overseas Job Fair and Caravan Services 2026 held on August 7, 2026, at the Municipal Gymnasium in Poblacion, Dauis

The activity formed part of the week-long celebration of the 306th Foundation Day of the Municipality of Dauis. It was organized by the Municipal Public Employment Service Office (PESO), headed by Ms. Caya Estoque, in coordination with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-Bohol and PESO managers across the province.

Dauis Mayor Miriam Sumaylo, Vice Mayor Atty. Nickie Delgado, Labor and Employment Committee Chair Councilor Rolly Guillena, and representatives from various national government agencies attended the event and expressed their support for employment generation initiatives.

Six DMW-licensed recruitment agencies participated in the overseas job fair, offering employment opportunities in Bahrain, Brunei Darussalam, Croatia, Japan, Qatar, Türkiye, and Saudi Arabia. One applicant for a female cleaner position bound for Saudi Arabia was hired on the spot.

More than ten local companies also joined the activity, providing a wide range of employment opportunities for job seekers within the country.

Through its regulatory and monitoring functions, the DMW RO VII remains committed to promoting safe, legal, and ethical overseas employment while protecting the rights, welfare, and interests of Filipino migrant workers and their families.
