The Department of Energy- Visayas Field Office (DOE-VFO) conducted a coordination meeting with the Negros Electric and Power Corporation (NEPC) to proactively ensure power supply reliability and strengthen local energy security across its franchise area.

The meeting was led by the DOE-VFOโ€™s Electric Power Industry Management Division (EPIMD) together with the Energy Resources Development Division (ERDD) on 30 July 2026 to assess NEPC's operational readiness and discuss key measures targeting local grid stability, power supply dynamics, and seasonal weather preparedness for the ongoing Habagat season and El Niรฑo conditions.

The discussions focused on evaluating distribution development plans, power supply agreements, grid modernization projects, and compliance with national mandates such as the Lifeline Rate Program and Renewable Energy initiatives. Through this engagement, the DOE-VFO serves as the primary on-ground partner addressing local energy concerns, ensuring that field-level operational challenges are directly tackled to safeguard consumer welfare and maintain continuous electricity service.

"Hindi naman kasalanan ng consumer kung bakit nagkaroon ng system loss. Kaya hindi naman tama na kailangan sila pa ang pagbabayarin dito."
โ€” President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., Fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA), 27 July 2026

Acting on President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive, the Department of Energy (DOE) has established a Joint Task Force with the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), the National Electrification Administration (NEA), and electric cooperatives to lead the next phase of implementing reforms to remove system loss charges and the corresponding Value-Added Tax (VAT) from consumers' electricity bills. The Joint Task Force will coordinate the technical, regulatory, and legislative work needed to advance the Administration's commitment to fairer electricity rates, stronger consumer protection, and a more efficient power sector.

The Department of Energy โ€“ Visayas Field Office (DOE-VFO) conducted technical monitoring and validation of two major solar power projects in Negros Occidental in line with the Presidential directives to ensure the timely completion and reliable operation of critical energy infrastructure nationwide.

The 117.12 MWac Bacolod Solar Power Project (Phase 1) in Bacolod City and the 96 MWac Cadiz Solar Power Project in Cadiz City were visited by the DOE-VFOโ€™s Energy Resources Development Division (ERDD) and Electric Power Industry Management Division (EPIMD) this July 2026.

The team conducted physical walkthroughs and data validation to verify actual construction milestones and overall development status on-site. These activities aim to provide hands-on technical and regulatory assistance to project developers, ensuring these projects remain on track for scheduled commercial operations while proactively identifying field-level constraints to formulate targeted interventions and policy support.

Complementing the O.N.E. campaign activation in Iloilo City, the Department of Energy (DOE) expanded the Solar Solutions for Government: Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy in Public Buildings (SSG-ERPB) Program through the signing of Memoranda of Agreement (MOAs) with five new government partners in Region VI.

Joining the program are the City Government of Iloilo, the Provincial Governments of Antique, Aklan, and Capiz, and the Department of Economy, Planning and Development (DepDev) Region VI. Through these partnerships, participating institutions will advance the adoption of rooftop solar photovoltaic systems, energy-efficient retrofits, and other measures aimed at reducing electricity consumption and improving the resilience of public facilities.

With 23 government entities now covered by MOAs under the program nationwide, the DOE continues to expand clean and efficient energy solutions across the public sector, helping government institutions lower operating costs and redirect energy savings toward essential public services.
