SWIFT POLICE RESPONSE RESCUES 8-YEAR-OLD HOSTAGE IN ILOCOS SUR

A swift and measured police response led to the safe recovery of an eight-year-old child who was held hostage by an armed suspect in Alilem, Ilocos Sur, on August 29, 2026.

Responding to the distress call, personnel of the Alilem Municipal Police Station promptly proceeded to the area and found the suspect barricaded inside a bedroom with the child. Police negotiators immediately engaged the suspect in dialogue, carefully managing the situation to protect the child and prevent further harm.

Through sustained negotiation and a controlled police intervention, the child was safely released and immediately provided first aid for a wound on the right leg. The victim was subsequently brought to a local hospital for medical attention and appropriate psychological support.

The suspect was taken into police custody and will face appropriate charges in accordance with law and due process.

Chief, PNP Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. commended the responding personnel for maintaining composure and prioritizing the safety of the child throughout the incident.

“In a situation like this, every second matters, but so does every decision. Hindi kailangang madaliin kung ang kapalit ay mas malaking panganib. Our officers showed that patience, proper coordination, and sound judgment can save a life,” PGen Nartatez said.

PNP ARRESTS 4 MOST WANTED PERSONS IN MURDER, ILLEGAL DRUG, R**E CASES

The Philippine National Police (PNP) arrested three wanted persons in separate operations in Laguna, Rizal, and Negros Occidental on August 30, 2026, as police units nationwide continue to strengthen efforts to locate individuals with standing warrants and facilitate their proper disposition before the courts.

In Calauan, Laguna, joint police personnel arrested two legal-age Filipino suspects. The two were apprehended by virtue of a warrant issued in connection with a murder case, with no bail recommended.

In Taytay, Rizal, police personnel arrested another legal-age Filipino suspect wanted in connection with multiple cases involving violations of Republic Act 6425 and Republic Act 9165. The suspect remains under police custody pending appropriate court proceedings.

Meanwhile, in Victorias City, Negros Occidental, authorities arrested a legal-age Filipino suspect listed among the region’s No. 5 wanted persons. The suspect was apprehended by virtue of warrants issued in connection with cases involving qualified r**e and r**e by sexual assault.

All four suspects were informed of their constitutional rights and will be subjected to the appropriate legal process.

The separate arrests form part of the PNP’s continuing implementation of the Enhanced Managing Police Operations (EMPO) under the PNP Focused Agenda, which promotes focused police action, stronger coordination, and the lawful ex*****on of court-issued warrants.

TEEN ARRESTED FOR ALLEGED R**E OF 13-YEAR-OLD IN PARAÑAQUE

The Philippine National Police, under the command of PNP Chief PGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., arrested an 18-year-old male for alleged statutory r**e involving a 13-year-old girl in Barangay Santo Niño, Parañaque City, on August 29, 2026.

Personnel of Parañaque City Police Station Sub-Station 3, together with barangay tanods, responded after the victim’s father discovered the suspect inside the residence and learned of the alleged assault. The suspect was immediately apprehended and brought to the Parañaque City Police Station, where he was turned over to the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) for investigation and proper disposition.

Initial investigation showed that the suspect allegedly lured the 13-year-old victim into a comfort room inside the residence, where the sexual assault allegedly occurred. After learning of the incident, the victim’s father immediately sought assistance from barangay authorities, resulting in the suspect’s arrest.

Formal charges for violation of Republic Act No. 11648, in relation to statutory r**e, and Republic Act No. 7610, or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act, are being prepared for filing against the arrested individual.

“This arrest demonstrates that the PNP will act decisively to protect children and hold those who prey on them accountable. Our police officers must remain vigilant, responsive, and committed to safeguarding the most vulnerable members of our communities,” PGEN Nartatez said.

“Kapag may batang nangangailangan ng proteksiyon, hindi tayo dapat mag-atubili. Ang kaligtasan ng mga bata ay pananagutan nating lahat,” he added.

CHECKPOINT OPERATION YIELDS ₱1.7-MILLION SMUGGLED CI******ES IN COTABATO

A checkpoint operation in Cotabato led to the arrest of a 45-year-old businessman and the seizure of some 2,000 reams of suspected smuggled ci******es worth approximately ₱1.71 million on August 29, 2026.

Police personnel from the Aleosan Municipal Police Station, together with the Police Intelligence Unit of Cotabato Police Provincial Office, Regional Intelligence Division 12, and STT Echo, intercepted an Isuzu Elf Re**er Van Truck in Barangay San Mateo, Aleosan, Cotabato.

The driver, identified only as alias “Mando,” reportedly failed to stop when flagged down and instead continued driving, prompting the responding personnel to pursue and intercept the vehicle. The driver was subsequently taken into police custody, while the vehicle and its cargo were secured for proper disposition.

Authorities are preparing charges for alleged violations of Republic Act No. 10863, or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act, and Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code for filing before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor in Midsayap.

Chief PNP Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. said the operation demonstrates the importance of sustained police presence and coordination in preventing the movement of illicit goods.

“We will continue to strengthen our presence where it matters most—on the roads, in communities, and at points where illegal goods may pass. Simple lang ang objective: kung may kahina-hinalang galaw, our personnel must be ready to respond properly, lawfully, and professionally.”

TWO CTG MEMBERS DROP ARMS, SURRENDER IN MISAMIS ORIENTAL

The Philippine National Police, under the command of PNP Chief PGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., facilitated the voluntary surrender of two Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) members in Magsaysay, Misamis Oriental, on August 28, 2026, further reducing the armed group’s presence in the area.

The surrenderers, identified by their aliases “Dumalag,” 33, married, and “Rhiane,” 24, single, both residents of Agusan del Norte, were former members of Platoon Lennon, Guerrilla Front 4B, Sub-Regional Committee 1, North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC). Both were listed in the Non-Periodic Status Report (NPSR).

The surrender was facilitated through joint operations involving the 1001st Maneuver Company (MC), Regional Mobile Force Battalion 10 (RMFB 10), RMFB 10 intelligence operatives, 11th Special Action Company, 1st Special Action Battalion, Special Action Force, Regional Intelligence Unit 10, Directorate for Intelligence–Mindanao Area Police Intelligence Office, National Intelligence Coordinating Agency 10, Magsaysay Municipal Police Station, Provincial Intelligence Unit, and 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company of the Misamis Oriental Police Provincial Office.

The two former CTG members turned over two improvised shotguns and nine rounds of 12-gauge ammunition. They are now under the custody of the 1001st MC, RMFB 10, in Langonglong, Misamis Oriental, for custodial debriefing and individual profiling, while the surrendered fi****ms and ammunition will be subjected to forensic examination by the Regional Forensic Unit.

“Their decision to surrender is a concrete step away from armed conflict and toward a peaceful and lawful life. The PNP will remain firm in protecting communities and addressing threats to public safety,” PGEN Nartatez said.

“Ang mahalaga ngayon ay mabigyan sila ng pagkakataong makapagsimulang muli at mamuhay nang mapayapa. Hinihikayat natin ang iba pang kasapi na piliin ang kapayapaan at iwanan ang armadong pakikibaka,” he added.

The development is also aligned with the PNP Focused Agenda, particularly Active Community Support, by strengthening community engagement and encouraging those involved in armed groups to return to peaceful and lawful communities.

PNP SUSTAINS NATIONWIDE ANTI-DRUG OPS; OVER ₱12.2M ILLEGAL DRUGS SEIZED IN DAVAO, KALINGA, ILOILO

The Philippine National Police (PNP) continues to strengthen its anti-illegal drug campaign as police operations in Davao de Oro, Kalinga, and Iloilo resulted in the arrest of a high-value drug personality and the seizure and destruction of illegal drugs with a combined estimated value of more than ₱12.2 million.

In Pantukan, Davao de Oro, police arrested a legal-age Filipino known by the alias “Jun,” identified as a high-value individual (HVI), during a tracking operation on August 30. The suspect had previously been arrested in June in connection with the recovery of approximately 215 grams of suspected shabu valued at ₱1.462 million. After leaving police custody during the course of the earlier proceedings, he was continuously tracked until his recent arrest.

Meanwhile, a joint police operation in Tinglayan, Kalinga, led to the discovery of a ma*****na plantation containing approximately 3,000 fully grown ma*****na plants with an estimated standard drug price of ₱6 million. No cultivator was arrested during the operation. The recovered plants were destroyed on site, while samples were retained for appropriate examination.

In Iloilo City, police also arrested two HVIs in a buy-bust operation in Barangay San Isidro, La Paz, early on August 31. Authorities recovered approximately 710 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated standard drug price of ₱4.828 million, along with the buy-bust money and other evidence.

These operations reflect the PNP’s sustained implementation of the PNP Focused Agenda, particularly Enhanced Managing Police Operations (EMPO), which calls for coordinated, intelligence-driven, and accountable police action against threats to public safety.
