: Upon recommendation of the Manila City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (MCDRRMD), I am ordering the suspension of all classes in all levels in public and private schools on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, due to inclement weather brought about by the enhanced southwest monsoon (habagat).

According to the MCDRRMD, consistent weather models indicate moderate to heavy, at times intense rainfall expected throughout the day.

Warm greetings from the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP)!

We are pleased to inform you that the CCP, through its Artist Training Division (ATD) of the Arts Education Department, is now accepting applications for Batch 14 of the CCP Kabataang Gitarista Program (KG).
This program aims to discover, train, and support young classical guitarists from various public high schools in the National Capital Region (NCR), fostering their artistic growth and expanding opportunities for music education.

The program was organized in August 2012 to promote appreciation for, and interest in, classical guitar performance among public high school students; to provide the highest level of guitar training FREE OF CHARGE; and to develop a performing classical guitar ensemble. The current mentors are Christian Mercader and Fernando Sy-Changco III, all of whom are alumni of the program.

The members of the program have given performances in selected public and private schools, at the CCP, and other venues, promoting classical guitar among the youth through workshops and lecture demonstrations. Selected members have represented the Philippines in international guitar festivals and have won awards in both local and international classical guitar competitions.

In this regard, we respectfully request your assistance in promoting the CCP KG Program Call for Applications in your school. This initiative will allow aspiring young musicians to showcase their talents and potentially become part of the CCP Kabataang Gitarista Program, where they will receive the highest level of classical guitar training year-round under experienced mentors free of charge.

According to the MCDRRMD, three out of five weather models indicate moderate to heavy rainfall, with PAGASA’s latest outlook confirming expected rainfall with intensity ranging from light to moderate, at times heavy, particularly early in the morning and in the afternoon.
