‎The City ENRO Puerto Princesa, through the Environmental Law Enforcement Division, conducted a summary demolition of an illegal tree house structure built within the 2023 Love Affair with Nature planting site in Purok 2, Sitio Bucana, Brgy. Iwahig, Puerto Princesa City.
‎
‎During the operation, approximately 97 pieces of illegally cut mangrove timber were recovered from the site. This enforcement action reaffirms our commitment to upholding environmental laws and preserving the City's vital ecosystem.

‎As per Presidential Proclamation No. 2152, Palawan Province is declared a Mangrove Swamp Forest Reserve, legally protecting its coastal forests from unauthorized human intrusion. Under national laws including Republic Act No. 7161 and Republic Act No. 10654, alongside localized Palawan Council for Sustainable Development (PCSD) Administrative Order No. 11, Series of 2006, the cutting, clearing, or damaging of any mangrove species, as well as the construction of unauthorized structures such as treehouses, dwellings, or private facilities within mangrove areas, is strictly illegal. Violators face immediate demolition of illegal structures at their own expense, alongside severe administrative fines.

The Office of the City ENRO, through the Forest Management Services Division (FMSD), assisted the tree planting activity conducted by the Puerto Princesa City Government Employees Multipurpose Cooperative (PPCGEMPC) last May 13, 2026, at City Arboretum, Bgy. Sta. Monica, this City as part of the celebration of their 35th Founding Anniversary.

The Office of the City ENRO provided technical assistance in the identification and preparation of planting site, as well as the provision of other suitable tree species. Around 40 seedlings of native species, including Radermachera, Mountain Agoho, Tanabag, Balai Lamok, Brackenridgea, Syzygium, Palomaria, Marangub and Lambonao Lalaki were planted.

On May 10, 2026, the City Environment and Natural Resources Office of Puerto Princesa, through its Protected Area Management Services Division and Wildlife Management Services Division, joined the awareness-raising activity organized by ABConservation Foundation Inc. at Sitio San Carlos, Bgy. Bacungan.

Joined by other resource personnel from the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development, the activity aimed to educate the Indigenous Peoples community about the ecological importance of the binturong (Arctictis binturong), its habitat which includes the lush forest of the Palawan Flora, Fauna, and Watershed Reserve, and the governing law that protects them and all wildlife species (R.A. 9147, also known as the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act).

The City ENRO Puerto Princesa would like to thank the ABConservation Foundation Inc. for giving us the opportunity to share with the public, primarily the IP community of Sitio San Carlos, the importance of the Palawan Flora, Fauna, and Watershed Reserve (PFFWR) to the ecosystem of Puerto Princesa and the thriving population of Palawan bearcat within its forest.

The ABConservation Foundation Inc. is the world's only non-governmental organization dedicated to the study and protection of the Southeast Asian native binturong.

On May 07, 2026, the City Environment and Natural Resources Office of Puerto Princesa welcomed the esteemed representatives from central government agencies and local authorities of Viet Nam, alongside delegates from WWF-Philippines and WWF-Viet Nam as part of their study tour of biodiversity conservation-based projects in Puerto Princesa City.

The event began at the Biological Specimen Storage Room in Barangay Irawan with an orientation about the biophysical and management profile of Palawan Flora, Fauna, and Watershed Reserve (PFFWR). The session was led by the division heads of Forest Management Services Division, Protected Area Management Services Division, and Wildlife Management Services Division. Following the discussion, the delegation toured various sites within the PFFWR, including the Irawan Wildlife Facility and the Healing Forest.

The City ENRO Puerto Princesa would like to thank WWF-Philippines and WWF-Vietnam for including us in this study tour which fosters more effective environmental governance and strengthens international collaboration in watershed and biodiversity conservation.

On May 06, 2026, the City ENRO Puerto Princesa facilitated the Culminating Presentation and Recognition Activity for interns from various programs under the College of Sciences of Palawan State University - Main Campus at KaNegosyo Conference, Old City Hall.

This activity marks the culmination of the internship journey for our Computer Science, Environmental Science, and Information Technology students as they presented their learnings, insights, and recommendations for better environmental governance in Puerto Princesa.

‎Every piece of trash collected, every mudball thrown, and every hour shared for our coastlines reminds us that protecting our bays is a shared responsibility. Our seas provide food, livelihood, and life to many communities in Puerto Princesa, and caring for them today means protecting the future of the next generation.

The City ENRO through the Environmental Law Enforcement Division (ELED) formally turned over five (5) confiscated chainsaws to the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development Staff (PCSDS) Center, Barangay Irawan, Puerto Princesa City.

These chainsaws were confiscated by the ELED in various barangays within Puerto Princesa. The enforcement team continues its relentless efforts to apprehend violators of environmental laws—specifically PD 705 (Forestry Code) against illegal tree cutting, and RA 9175 (Chainsaw Act of 2002) against the unauthorized use of chainsaws without proper permits.

The enforcement team remains steadfast in protecting our forests and pursuing those who violate environmental laws, ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.

‎The City Environment and Natural Resources Office of Puerto Princesa, through its Environmental Law Enforcement Division (ELED), completed a two-day Basic Defense Tactics Training facilitated by the Pekiti Tirsia Kali Kadugo Tribe Palawan at the Maritime Training Facility and Magarwak Monitoring Station in Barangay Sta. Lourdes.

‎Themed “Sa Batas at Sandata: Serving with Skill and Honor,” the event was attended by City ENRO personnel from Bantay Gubat and Bantay Dagat projects on April 30-May 1, 2026.
‎
‎The training aimed to equip the enforcement team with self-defense techniques that may come necessary during law enforcement operations, ensuring the appropriate use of force in the line of duty.
‎
‎The City ENRO-ELED is tasked with enforcing environmental laws, including the Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines (PD 705), the Chainsaw Act of 2002 (RA 9175), and the Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998 (RA 8550, as amended by RA 10654), alongside relevant city ordinances.

‎The City Environment and Natural Resources Office (City ENRO) of Puerto Princesa, through its Environmental Management Services Division (EMSD), successfully conducted an Organic Waste Management Training/Seminar for TUPAD beneficiaries initiated by City PESO of Puerto Princesa at Barangay Mandaragat and Barangay Kamuning gymnasium.

‎Beyond providing participants with temporary livelihood opportunities under the TUPAD program, the activity served a deeper purpose empowering beneficiaries with practical knowledge and hands-on skills in organic waste management that they can carry with them well beyond their period of employment. The training reflects a commitment to building environmentally conscious citizens who are equipped to take an active role in protecting and preserving their natural surroundings.

The City Environment and Natural Resources Office (City ENRO), together with dedicated interns from Palawan State University (PalSU), conducted a seagrass assessment in Barangay Luzviminda last April 23, 2026. This field activity forms part of our continuing efforts to monitor the health of coastal ecosystems, identify species composition and distribution, and generate science‑based data that will guide the City Government in planning effective coastal and marine resource management programs.

Seagrass beds play a vital role in maintaining marine biodiversity—they serve as nursery grounds for fish, stabilize sediments, and help protect our shorelines. By assessing their condition, we strengthen our capacity to safeguard these habitats for both present and future generations.

This initiative also highlights the strong collaboration between the Local Government Unit and academic institutions. Through the City ENRO’s internship program, PalSU students gain hands‑on experience in environmental fieldwork, allowing them to apply classroom knowledge to real‑world conservation challenges. At the same time, their participation supports the LGU’s data‑gathering and monitoring activities, creating a meaningful partnership that benefits both learning and local governance.
