The Ambassador of Malta participated in a meeting of EU Heads of Mission in Lisbon with H.E. Joaquim Miranda Sarmento, Minister of State and Finance of Portugal, convened under the Irish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The meeting facilitated an exchange of views on key European snd Portuguese economic priorities and current challenges, reaffirming the importance of close coordination and cooperation among EU Member States.

Celebrating Malta’s Independence Day

On 21 September, we commemorate a defining moment in our nation’s history — the day in 1964 when Malta became a sovereign and independent state, marking the culmination of a long journey towards self-government.

Independence stands as a testament to the determination, unity and enduring spirit of the Maltese people, and to the generations who worked towards shaping Malta’s own destiny, preserving its unique identity, culture and language.

Today, we celebrate with pride Malta’s heritage and achievements, while looking with confidence towards the future.

The Embassy of Malta in Lisbon extends its warmest wishes to the people of Malta, the Maltese community in Portugal, and Maltese communities around the world.

Ċelebrazzjoni tal-Indipendenza ta' Malta

Fil-21 ta' Settembru, niċċelebraw mument definittiv fl-istorja tan-nazzjon tagħna — il-jum fil-1964 meta Malta saret stat sovran u indipendenti, li jfisser il-qofol ta' vjaġġ twil lejn l-awtonomija.

L-indipendenza hija xhieda tad-determinazzjoni, l-għaqda u l-ispirtu dejjiemi tal-poplu Malti, u tal-ġenerazzjonijiet li ħadmu biex jiffurmaw id-destin ta' Malta, u jżommu l-identità, il-kultura u l-lingwa uniċi tagħha.

Illum, niċċelebraw b'kburija l-wirt u l-kisbiet ta' Malta, filwaqt li nħarsu b'kunfidenza lejn il-futur.

L-Ambaxxata ta' Malta f'Lisbona testendi l-isbaħ xewqat tagħha lil-Maltin, lill-komunità Maltija fil-Portugall, u lill-komunitajiet Maltin madwar id-dinja.

It was a pleasure for Ambassador Spiteri Cachia to accept the kind invitation of the Soċjetà Mużikali Sant’Antnin to visit their premises and meet members of the Committee.

She greatly appreciated their warm welcome and interesting exchange on the possibility of the Band performing in Lisbon and Fátima—a wonderful opportunity to showcase Malta’s musical traditions and strengthen the cultural bonds between Malta and Portugal.

Sincere thanks to the Committee for their hospitality and looking forward to continuing this conversation and hopefully welcoming the Band to Portugal soon.
