The initial contingent of Maltese Civil Protection personnel has arrived in Portugal and is proceeding to their operational base in Almeirim. There, they will provide assistance to Portugal's ongoing efforts in wildfire suppression.

The Embassy of Malta wishes them a successful mission.

The work of the Maltese Civil Protection Department goes beyond our shores. Between today and the end of August, 40 officers will once again be deployed to assist the Portuguese authorities under the EU Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Mechanism during the wildfire season. 🇲🇹 🤝🇵🇹

The Working Holiday for Youth of Maltese Descent Scheme offers young people of Maltese descent the opportunity to reconnect with their ancestral homeland by living, working and studying in Malta.

✅ Open to persons aged 18–30 of Maltese descent
✅ Eligible applicants may apply for a National D Visa, issued by Identità
✅ Visa validity: 1 year
✅ Opportunity to explore Malta, gain work and study experience, and strengthen family and cultural ties with the country

The scheme has been in effect since 1 January 2026.

The Maltese ALMA cohort has arrived in Braga, where over the next two months they will gain valuable work experience, develop new skills, and embrace a unique international opportunity.

The ALMA Initiative supports vulnerable young people who are not in Employment, Education or Training (NEETs) by helping them take positive steps towards employment, education, or training.

We wish all participants a rewarding experience and every success on this exciting journey!
