The Smallholder Agricultural Productivity Enhancement and Marketing Project (SAPEMP) recently convened a three-day National Natural Resource Management Committee (NRMC) Training Manual Development Workshop, bringing together experts from government, public institutions, civil society organizations, and development partners.

The workshop marked an important milestone in developing a standardized national training manual that will strengthen the capacity of communities to sustainably manage forests, rangelands, water resources, biodiversity, and other natural resources. Once finalized, the manual will equip NRMCs with practical knowledge and skills to promote climate resilience, environmental stewardship, and sustainable livelihoods across Eswatini.

As part of its ongoing stakeholder engagement, yesterday, at Phumula Guest House, Nhlangano, EWADE met with Shiselweni Chiefs and traditional authorities from chiefdoms that are affected, or will be affected, by the Mkhondvo Ngwavuma Water Augmentation Programme (MNWAP).
The engagement provided an opportunity to update traditional leaders on the progress of Phase 1 of the programme, including the construction of the Mpakeni Dam, the Main Conveyance System (MCS) and the construction of the Secondary Distribution System pipeline.
Traditional leaders also received updates on the resettlement programme and the on-farm development works, which have now reached 21% completion, with significant progress made in bush clearing and land preparation.
Looking ahead, EWADE shared the broader vision of the MNWAP Holistic Development Plan, which includes the construction of the Ethemba Dam and the water conveyance tunnel linking Ethemba to the Ngwavuma River. These strategic investments will unlock new opportunities for irrigation, agricultural production, employment creation and rural economic growth.
The Chiefs reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the programme and were encouraged to continue mobilising their communities to work closely with EWADE to ensure the successful implementation of this transformative national initiative.

Today marked an important milestone in the implementation of the Eswatini Youth Employment Opportunities Project (EYEOP) as Government engaged traditional leaders from the Lubombo Region to introduce the project and strengthen partnerships for its successful rollout.
EYEOP is a five-year Government of Eswatini initiative that will create income-earning opportunities for 30,000 young emaSwati through skills development, entrepreneurship, apprenticeships and employment pathways.
As one of the lead implementing agencies, EWADE is responsible for Component 1.1: Income-Earning Opportunities in Agriculture, which aims to empower 20,000 youth through climate-smart agriculture and agricultural value chain enterprises. Participants will receive technical and business skills training, mentorship, start-up support, and market linkages to help them establish sustainable livelihoods.
We look forward to working with Government, traditional leadership, development partners and communities to ensure that young emaSwati, particularly those not in education, employment or training (NEET), can access meaningful opportunities that transform lives and strengthen local economies.

Behind every statistic is a story of progress.

Last week, we shared how the Hamba Ubuye Revolving Fund supported 191 farmers to produce the highest maize harvest recorded under the initiative. Today, we celebrate one of the people behind those numbers.

For Jabulani Simelane of Ngwemphisi, the 2025/26 farming season marked his first participation in the programme. One season later, he has achieved an important milestone, fully repaying his production inputs loan and investing in a tractor using the proceeds from his harvest.

His story reflects the true purpose of the Hamba Ubuye Revolving Fund: creating opportunities that empower farmers to grow beyond a single season. By repaying his loan, Jabulani has helped ensure that the fund can continue supporting other aspiring farmers. By investing in mechanisation, he is strengthening his own farming enterprise and laying the foundation for future growth.

Development is not measured only by hectares planted or tonnes harvested. It is measured by farmers who build sustainable businesses, create opportunities for their families and communities, and invest confidently in their future.

Jabulani's journey reminds us that when farmers are equipped with the right support, determination can grow into lasting prosperity.
