25th August 2026: Today, the Maritime Administration Office hosted the division Mini‑Retreat at the Head Office in Tongatapu from Tuesday, 25 August to Thursday, 27 August 2026. All staff from Tongatapu headquarters and outer island branches in Vava’u, Ha’apai, ’Eua, and Niutoputapu are participating.
The Director for Maritime Administration Office, Mrs. Kelela Tonga opened the retreat with emphasis on the division’s national and international obligations and mandate while reflecting on achievements and challenges from the 2025/2026 Financial Year. She also shared that staff should use this opportunity to share knowledge and experiences, strengthening collaboration for effective implementation of activities in the year ahead.
Throughout the retreat, presentations will be delivered by units across the division, including Maritime Enforcement & Compliance, Maritime Safety and Security, Marine Environment, Harbour Management, and Port Resilience. Discussions will cover achievements and challenges from FY25/26 for each unit and branch, the Corporate Plan 2026/27–2027/28, the Annual Management Plan 2026/27, budget, responsibilities, reporting, and the organizational structure.
By the end of the retreat, staff are expected to have identified gaps and challenges requiring solutions, strengthened collaboration across units and branches, and built a unified vision for advancing Tonga’s maritime governance.
This collective effort will ensure the successful implementation of activities within the 2026/2027 financial year and reinforce Tonga’s compliance with international maritime obligations.
