Today, April 28, we come together to celebrate National Adaptive Sport Day. This day marks the anniversary of the signing of the regulations enforcing Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. This legislation is the landmark civil rights legislation that prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in federally funded programs, including sports and recreation. This includes schools, universities, healthcare, social service organizations, and state or local government programs that receive federal financial assistance.

Challenge Alaska is a proud to be part of this movement and strives to create a community where athletes of all ability are welcome and can find a home through sport and recreation. Everyone can make a difference in their community. Volunteer with an adaptive sport organization. Share the message about inclusion and adaptive sport on social media. Help change the fact that people with disabilities remain some of the most underrepresented in sports and recreation.
