Learn more about the reindeer herding in Alaska 🦌

"Alaska is home to 22,000 to 25,000 domesticated reindeer, owned and managed by 16 different individuals and entities. Together these pastoralists graze more than 20 million acres of rangeland from the southern and western Aleutian Islands to the far northern and western reaches of Alaska, including the Seward Peninsula, the Pribilof Islands, and the Bering Sea Islands of Nunivak and St. Lawrence Island."

Anchorage, a quick update on the chipping program 🌲
The program is moving forward, but several details depend on the contractor procurement and onboarding process. We will share accurate details once they are finalized.

There are still meaningful ways to participate now:

✅ Request a free Firewise assessment
✅ Complete and document a self-assessment
✅ Begin defensible space work around your home

The level of community engagement and willingness to take action has been incredible to see. Every property owner who removes hazardous vegetation, improves defensible space, or learns more about wildfire preparedness contributes to a more wildfire resilient Anchorage 🔥🏔️

The Cooperative Extension Resilience Educator will lead the development, delivery, and evaluation of trauma-informed programming and Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training across rural Alaska. This role is responsible for bridging the gap between clinical research and community application, specifically targeting the opioid epidemic, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), and rural isolation.
