Aleut Aleut is an Alaska Native corporation owned by more than 5,000 Unangax̂/Aleut shareholders and descendants. Language must remain respectful.

Aleut was established in 1972 under the terms of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA). This legislation provided land settlements and cash settlements to the 12 ANCSA regional corporations formed under the Act. Aleut received a settlement of $19.5 million, and was entitled to 70,789 acres of surface lands and 1.572 million acres of subsurface estate. Voting shares of stock were issued t

o 3,249 shareholders. Most of the Corporation’s ANCSA selections are on the Alaska Peninsula and Aleutian, Shumagin, and Pribilof Islands, situated between Port Moller and the Alaska Peninsula and the western tip of Atka Island. The Corporation owns the village site of Attu as well as numerous historical and cemetery sites
between Atka and the Alaska Peninsula.

This Sunday, we celebrate 54 years since Aleut was incorporated on June 21, 1972, as one of the 13 original Alaska Native corporations under ANCSA.

This day is a milestone that reflects the strength, resilience, and vision of our Unangax̂ people. Since 1972, that foundation has shaped how Aleut supports our shareholders, strengthens communities, and creates lasting impact.

With more than 5,000 shareholders and descendants and a growing future ahead, we continue building on the legacy that brought us here.

Fishing sustains our people, our culture, and our communities. It's our way of life.

Limited entry permits were meant to protect fishing rights in our communities, but over time, the introduction of transferable permits has greatly impacted local economies and our traditional way of life.

This past weekend, we welcomed nearly 500 shareholders and their families to our 2026 Aleut Picnic! It was an incredible day filled with connection, community, and celebration of culture – and even a bit of sunshine! ☀️

Shareholders had the opportunity to hear speeches from our 2026 Board of Director candidates, shop from our talented Unangax̂ artists and vendors, and enjoyed a special dance performance from APIA Culture Camp to close out the event.
