Members of our Angola Engineering & MS4 team recently attended the Elkhart County Soil and Water Conservation District Pay Dirt IN-Field 2026 event to sharpen their expertise in environmental protection and stormwater management. Protecting our local water resources starts right on the job site.

During this hands-on training, staff observed live demonstrations on proper silt fence installation to contain sediment runoff, effective site stabilization techniques to prevent soil erosion, effective construction entrance methods, and correct dewatering methods for active construction sites.

Continuing our education ensures we bring the highest field standards back to our community so Angola's growth goes haCity of Angola Municipality protection!

Did you know that Sheets Family Park is officially our latest trailhead along the Poka-Bache Connector Trail!

For those unfamiliar with the project, the Poka-Bache Connector is a major initiative that will span 82 miles, bringing Steuben, DeKalb, Allen, and Wells counties together by linking Pokagon State Park in Angola all the way to Oubache (pronounced “Wabash”) State Park in Bluffton.

Starting in March 2027, the trail will extend from Commons Park down to our southern city limits and eventually continuing onward outside city limits to Pleasant Lake.

Whether you're planning to bike, run, or take a peaceful walk, Sheets Family Park will serve as a great access point to explore the expanding trail system.

*** TIPS FROM MS4 ***

If you use fertilizer on your lawn or garden, please do so responsibly. Excess nutrients can run off land into our waterways causing algal blooms. Always follow the application rates on the product label. Make sure applicator equipment is properly calibrated. This is true even if you hire a company. Never apply fertilizer before rain is forecasted. Be sure to use phosphorus-free fertilizer.

Just remember the 4Rs of nutrient management to get the most out of your fertilizer application. The 4Rs are:

Right fertilizer source at the
Right rate, at the
Right time and in the
Right place

If everyone using fertilizer implements the 4Rs, the amount of excess nutrients entering the water will be much less.

*** UPDATE - EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED DUE TO WEATHER ***

Hey drivers! If you’re heading out today, July 27, please plan an alternate route and avoid the intersection of Henry Street and Williams Street.

We have a local artist on-site today painting a brand-new custom pedestrian crosswalk!

To give the artist space to work safely and allow the paint time to dry properly, crews will be managing traffic in the area.

Thanks for your patience.
