Regional Track Preview: Tracy and Siler Set for State Qualifying Saturday at Austintown Fitch

Austintown Fitch High School will host another key chapter of postseason track and field competition on Saturday, as two standout athletes return to the runway and track with state implications on the line.

Paul Siler enters the day with momentum already secured, having punched his ticket to the state meet with a runner-up finish in the discus on Thursday. That performance not only guaranteed qualification but also reinforced his position among the region’s elite, as he currently sits ranked third overall heading into Saturday’s final round in the shot put.

Siler is scheduled to compete at 11:00 a.m., where he will look to close out his regional campaign on a high note and potentially improve his seeding position heading into the state meet. His consistency throughout the season has kept him firmly in the upper tier of regional throwers, and his qualification earlier in the week removed any pressure of advancement—allowing him to focus solely on performance and placement.

Later in the day, Garret Tracy will take his turn on the track in the 1600-meter run at 1:00 p.m. Tracy enters the regional final ranked 10th, following a strong showing at the district meet where he placed fourth to earn his spot in the field.

The 1600 field is expected to be tightly contested, and Tracy’s recent improvement curve gives him an opportunity to challenge his seed and potentially climb into the mix for a top finish. His district performance demonstrated both tactical patience and finishing strength—key factors in championship-level mile racing.

With Siler already advancing to the state stage in the discus on Thursday and Tracy looking to break through in a deep field, Saturday’s schedule represents both a continuation of success and a final opportunity for regional breakout performances at Austintown Fitch.

Pope Shines at Regionals!
The best track and field athletes met last night for the highly competitive OHSAA Regional Track Meet. Among the top talent was Jasiah Pope, who earned a spot to compete against the finest long jumpers in the region.
Pope put on a strong performance on the big stage. Facing tough competition and high pressure, Pope launched a great jump of 18'10 3/4". This impressive effort secured a 13th-place finish in the entire region.
