They showed up BRAVE. 🔥

To close out Q1, the Bravest of the Brave Obstacle Challenge gave the community a hands-on glimpse into what it takes to train like an Atlanta firefighter — strength, endurance, and resilience on full display. 💪🏾🚒

Special thank you to the Atlanta Track Club for their partnership and support in bringing this experience to life.

Thank you to everyone who showed up and took on the challenge.

A historic moment for Atlanta Fire Rescue.

This week, we proudly celebrated the launch of the first-ever AFRD Recruit Housing Program — a meaningful investment in the future of our city’s fire service. This initiative provides housing for 10 active recruits during training, allowing them to live in the communities they are preparing to protect while easing financial pressures along the way.

We were honored to hear remarks from Mayor Andre Dickens, Fire Chief Roderick M. Smith, Councilmember Jason Winston, and AFRF CEO Taos Wynn. We also appreciate the presence and support of Councilmember Wesmoreland. A special thank you to Kathy Waller for her leadership and partnership in helping bring this vision to life.

We would also like to recognize the dedicated NPU leaders who continue to champion community engagement and collaboration: Anne Phillips, Shirley Nichols, and Tarin Love. Their support reflects the power of neighborhood partnership in strengthening our city.

This milestone represents more than a ribbon cutting. It is a commitment to stability, access, and long-term investment in Atlanta’s Bravest.

A proud moment. A powerful impact. And a strong foundation for what comes next.

Leadership matters. And today, it grows stronger.

We are proud to welcome Carol Waddy, Rich Kenah, Scott Brown, and Sid Barron to the Atlanta Fire Rescue Foundation Board of Directors.

With the support of Mayor Andre Dickens, we officially welcomed these leaders who will help expand our impact, strengthen firefighter wellness initiatives, and advance the ecosystem that serves those who serve Atlanta.

This is how progress happens — through partnership, vision, and action.

The mission continues. 🔥

On Tuesday, we proudly celebrated Firefighter Recognition Day by honoring Roderick M. Smith, Fire Chief of the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department, with the Outstanding Citizen Award.
Presented by the Georgia House of Representatives, this recognition reflects Chief Smith’s more than three decades of unwavering service, courageous leadership, and steadfast commitment to protecting the City of Atlanta and those who serve it.
We also extend our sincere appreciation to Taos Wynn, President & CEO of the Atlanta Fire Rescue Foundation, for his visionary leadership and continued dedication to honoring, supporting, and advancing Atlanta’s firefighters.
Chief Smith’s legacy—and the Foundation’s work—are reminders that strong leadership, partnership, and purpose remain at the heart of public safety in Atlanta.
