Today we celebrate Representative Nicole Collier—a champion for voting rights, criminal justice reform, women and families, Representative Collier demonstrated that courage nationally in 2025—joining the quorum break over congressional redistricting and later remaining overnight on the Texas House floor rather than submit to a mandated law-enforcement es**rt. It was a powerful reflection of her commitment to stand up, speak out and fight for the people she represents.

The Texas Legislative Black Caucus proudly celebrates her service, courage and continued commitment to the people of Texas.

Happy Birthday, Representative Nicole Collier !

Today, we remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, honor the first responders who ran toward danger, and hold in gratitude all who served in the face of unimaginable loss. We also hold close the families who continue to carry the loss of loved ones and the memories of lives forever changed.
Twenty-five years later, we remember their lives, their courage and their sacrifice. Forever in our hearts.

The 2030 Census may look very different — and the changes being proposed could directly affect Black communities.
👉🏾Changes to who is counted affect congressional representation and the federal resources communities receive. In plain terms: if Black communities are not fully counted or clearly measured, our needs can be easier to overlook.
📊Race and ethnicity data help show where African Americans are being left behind — in health care, housing, education, environmental conditions, economic opportunity and access to public resources. That same data can also be used to enforce civil rights laws, identify discrimination and draw political districts.
🤔If race and ethnicity questions are removed, it could become harder to measure disparities affecting African Americans — and harder to prove when those disparities exist.
🛑This is a proposal, not a final Census. But what happens next matters.
Stay informed. Know what is changing. Know what it could mean for Black Texas.

Labor Day is more than a day off; it’s a reminder that the rights and protections workers have today were fought, organized and won by working people.
Today, the Texas Legislative Black Caucus recognizes Texas workers and the unions that continue to advocate for fair wages, safe working conditions, workers’ rights and economic opportunity.
Happy Labor Day from the Texas Legislative Black Caucus.

As Barbara Jordan reminded us, “Equal rights for others does not mean less rights for you.”On this Women’s Equality Day, we commemorate the 19th Amendment and honor the generations of women who fought to make the promise of the ballot real for ALL WOMEN. This fight continues long after its passage and today is a great day to recommit to the work still ahead.
🗳️The power of that progress lives in our participation. 👉🏽Check your voter registration status. 👉🏽Help someone else get registered. 👉🏽Make sure the women in your family, workplace and community are ready to make their voices heard.
