Request for Feedback on TCFP rules: Sept. 8 @ 10am

The Governor’s Office of Government Efficiency has tasked the Texas Commission on Fire Protection with reviewing and simplifying its administrative rules to make them easier to understand and use.

This initiative provides an opportunity to reduce confusion, eliminate redundancies, and update outdated language in order to better serve our fire service partners.

To support this effort, a virtual informational session will be held on September 8, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.

This one-hour session will be hosted by Chief Mike Wisko, and will include:
✅an overview of the initiative
✅an explanation of the rule review process, and
✅an opportunity for participants to ask questions.

Most importantly, WE ARE SEEKING YOUR INPUT AND FEEDBACK to help guide the best path forward as we undertake this important work.

Registration is required to attend and provide comments/feedback.

Please note: for registered attendees who want to speak during the meeting, 🔹you must have your video camera turned on🔹 We will not accept anonymous comments, suggestions or feedback.

APPLICATION PERIOD REOPENED UNTIL 9/21

At the August 20 Commission meeting, a decision was made to re-open the application period for the three standing committees.

You may submit an application for the following standing committees until midnight on September 21, 2026:

✅Firefighter Advisory
✅Health & Wellness
✅Curriculum & Testing

NOTE: Each person may only submit one application per year.

We had previously stated that people may apply to more than one committee, but that has changed, and each person may only apply to one committee per year.

🔹If you already submitted an application this year🔹 you do NOT need to reapply. If you do reapply anyway, your new application will override the application you previously submitted.

🔹If you already submitted applications for more than one committee this year🔹 you will be contacted by TCFP staff so you can choose which one committee you would like to be considered for.

More information about each of the committees and the requirements to apply can be found on our website: https://www.tcfp.texas.gov/become-committee-member
