🚨 Scam Alert – Stay Vigilant! 🚨

Recently, we've received several reports from local businesses about a scam involving callers claiming to be from the Fire Marshal's Office. The caller tells businesses they need to pay money in advance before an inspection can be completed.

This is a scam.

As a general rule, no state or municipal government agency is going to call you out of the blue demanding payment before providing a service or conducting an inspection.

If you receive a suspicious call:
✅ Don't send money or provide payment information.
✅ Ask for the person's name, agency, and a callback number.
✅ Verify the information by contacting the agency directly using a phone number you find yourself—not one provided by the caller.

Legitimate state and municipal agencies will be able to verify who they are and explain exactly why they're contacting you.

If something doesn't seem right, trust your instincts.

As always, if you have questions or think you may have received a scam call, give the Lincoln Police Department a call. We're happy to help you verify the information and hopefully prevent someone from becoming the next victim.

Please consider sharing this post to help spread the word and protect others in our community.
