Traffic Impact Notice:

Tomorrow, July 9 (approx. 3-5PM), Public Works in collaboration with Bangor Area Comprehensive Transportation System - BACTS will begin the installation of traffic calming measures to test roadway improvements in the area of Main Street and Westwood Drive.

Request for Proposals – Culvert Inventory Phase III RFP (BACTS-2602)

The Bangor Area Comprehensive Transportation System (BACTS) intends to develop a Capital Improvement and Asset Management Program using data from the 2025 BACTS Regional Culvert Inventory Summary Report and Geodatabase. The inventory assessed 386 culverts in the BACTS region, identifying structural and environmental conditions for roads and culverts, as well as upstream and downstream flows.

This phase will develop a prioritized framework for repairs, maintenance, and long-term asset management based on field data from the 386 culverts. The objective is to provide BACTS members with actionable recommendations and tools to address failing structures, manage blockages, and establish a phased capital investment plan for the infrastructure within realistic budget constraints to enhance regional resilience.

The City is partnering with the Bangor Area Comprehensive Transportation System to introduce some temporary safety modifications to the intersection of Hammond and Union streets.

The project is meant to introduce design changes that will reduce the number of fatal and serious injury crashes that have occurred at the intersection, while also reducing speeds.

The safety modifications will be introduced in July and then removed in November to accommodate snow removal. But they may be reinstalled at some later point if the project is deemed successful.

Workers in July will introduce lane extensions, enhanced with flexposts (flexible, vertical plastic markers used for traffic management), and close the portion of Fourth Street that connects to the Hammond/Union intersection.
