Happy National Dog Day. The Bay View Police Department does not have a working dog but we can tell you any good cop likes a good dog. Here is a salute to our area working dogs from City of Sandusky Police Department, Perkins Township Police Department, Erie County Sheriff's Office, Huron Police Department, Vermilion Police Department and Bellevue Police Department.

Our area has road dogs, bomb dogs, service dogs, jail dogs and dispatch dogs.

The Bay View Police Department would like to thank The Mylander Foundation for grant which allowed us to acquire two new Kenwood radios. The grant disbursement which was more than $4000 allowed the department to update radios and improve communications. This will allow us to serve our community better and keep our officers safer. As we enter June we begin Bike Week in Ohio. As we leave May it is often forgotten that is Motorcycle Awareness Month. As our delayed Ohio weather improves the number of motorcycles on the road increases daily.

With bike week upon up please remember "Look Twice to Save a Life." Motorcycles can be deceptive when it comes to visibility or judging speed. There may be a stigma to motorcycles but remember the rider is still someone's spouse, child, sibling or parent.

Throughout the week if you see an officer wearing a band over their badge, understand they are honoring those who answered the call. The mourning band is traditional practice during National Police Officer Memorial Week (Police Week). The bands are also standard where an officer is lost in the line of duty.

Update: Thank you to everyone who attended, contributed, donated or gave support in anyway. The department is happy to see a community who cares and works together.

The Bay View Police Department and Village Volunteers will be hosting a spaghetti benefit event in support of Ofc. Glenn Schenk. Ofc. Schenk experienced a medical emergency while on duty and remains out of service for recovery. The event is set for Saturday May 30th at noon in the village park. Should weather be a complication the event will be moved to the Bay View Fire Station. Meals will be $12 with water provided. The event will include music, a 50/50 drawing and raffle baskets.
