NorthSTAR & SouthSTAR Air Medical Helicopter NorthSTAR & SouthSTAR Medevac operates in conjunction with Univ. Hospital, NJ DOH and NJSP Aviation

Since July of 1988, the JEMSTAR program has provided rapid transport of the critically ill and injured patient to trauma centers throughout New Jersey within the “golden hour”. The JEMSTAR program is supported through grant funding from a $3 surcharge on motor-vehicle registrations. That funding subsidizes the operation of NorthSTAR and SouthSTAR, in conjunction with the NJ State Police, allowing

us to transport patients for free. Along with being able to provide care to our patients at no cost, the JEMSTAR program is the only medevac system in NJ that operates state of the art aircraft with two pilots, and the capability of transporting two patients. While our primary mission is medevac operations, we also assist with Homeland Security, aviation law enforcement, and aerial hoist operations, along with search and rescue missions. NorthSTAR & SouthSTAR have successfully transported over 14,000 patients to trauma centers and other specialty care centers throughout the greater New Jersey area. These emergency transports have resulted in positive outcomes for victims of trauma. This is the official NorthSTAR & SouthSTAR page approved by:

Today is “Safety Tuesday” of National EMS Week and we have a message from Captain Michael Donnelly from the New Jersey State Police Aviation Bureau.

The New Jersey State Police is an integral part of the JEMSTAR program, and the Aviation Bureau reminds everyone of the importance of helicopter, medevac, and landing zone safety. Clear communication, proper preparation, and situational awareness save lives both on the ground and in the air.

Today’s theme for National EMS Week is EMS Education Day and we have a special message from UH EMS and JEMSTAR Clinical Coordinator Nicole Ferrarella!

Happy EMS Week to all of our EMS partners from JEMSTAR Air Medical.

As Clinical Coordinator, I know that the team and I are passionate about quality education in EMS that leads to better patient outcomes. We have had the privilege of working with providers across the state who continue to raise the bar through training, teamwork, and dedication to patient care. What you do on the ground every day matters, and we are proud to work alongside you not only on scenes, but in the classroom as well.
