Hello HSAB Community!

We are 2 week away from PoHE 2026! We are so excited and hope that you all are excited as well.

To spread the joy of PoHE to our cohort this year we are asking for minimal donations from our community. These donations will be used to purchase materials for our workshops, gift items for our mentees and volunteers, and also be used to purchase food to sustain everyone during the 3 day weekend. If you or someone you know would like to donate, please scan the QR code below or use our PoHE Finance Coordinator's, Allan Vang, Venmo account listed below.

Any donation is appreciated and we are truly so grateful to have your support. 🫶

With love and community,
The Pursuit of Higher Education Committee '25-'26 ❤️

PoHe is back for the upcoming Spring season!

The PoHe committee is so excited to be back, and we can’t wait to get this train going. PoHe’s focus this year is to foster a safe space for students to explore higher education, while also providing alternative pathways in their journeys. With that, another goal for this year’s PoHe is to create a community that supports one another even after our four-day program. The four-day and two-night experience is filled with educational and community-bonding workshops to give Hmong-identifying high school students an outlet outside of their personal lives. This year, we are looking for Hmong-identifying students from Northern and Central parts of California. The program is all expenses paid for and will take place on April 9-12, 2025, with one virtual day and three in-person days. PoHe will push students with a new kind of motivation to open doors for future generations.

This year’s theme is: “Txhawb Nqa: Uplifting Our Community Through Higher Education.” In honor of HSAB’s mentorship program, we are reusing the name to revive it. This year’s theme takes a deeper look into our Hmong heritage and stories. Our stories are passed down from one generation to the next and continue to affect us in an ever-changing modern society. Although higher education is one pathway, we will also highlight other avenues, such as trade schools, community colleges, and more. In an effort to support the Hmong community, no matter which path you take.

With community,
The PoHe Committee

Hello Community!
PoHE is back for the Spring of 2025!

The Hmong Student Association at Berkeley (HSAB) is a student-initiated organization established in 2008 with a mission to promote higher education and cultural understanding of the Hmong community. HSAB created the Pursuit of Higher Education (PoHE) program in 2008 to create a safe space for high school students and to carry-out our mission. PoHE is a three-day, two-night educational program from April 11th, 2025 to April 13th, 2025 located at the University of California, Berkeley.

However, the PoHE committee needs some help. This year we are again promising the student mentees an all-expenses paid-for program. With your donations, we can keep this promise as the donations will be used to pay for food, transportation, and workshop material.

Please feel free to share the following post and thank you for your time and donations.

PoHE is almost here and the PoHE mentee application has just been released! The PoHE committee is looking for Hmong-identifying high school students interested in higher education!

The Hmong Student Association at Berkeley(HSAB) initiated the Pursuit of Higher Education (PoHE) program in 2008 to give Hmong-Identity high school students a place to discover and dissect the complexities of higher education and their culture. PoHE is a three-day,two-night program where students will have opportunities to participate in educational and cultural workshops, activities to learn more about the Hmong history, and peer learning opportunities to develop more connections.

The PoHE program is an all-expenses paid-for program where housing, food, and transportation are covered which means that the participating students will have the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of PoHE without worrying about financial stress. We encourage high school students in the Northern and Central parts of California to apply! Please note that if you are selected to participate then you will be missing school on Friday 11th, 2025. Please inform parents/guardians of this before applying.

PoHE’s theme for the 2024-2025 school year is…

“Back To The Future: Sculpting our Future Based on our Past and Present”

With this theme, we want to reflect on the Hmong history and how that affects us today in achieving our goals in higher education. We also want to highlight our own stories as they are shaping us to be able to achieve those goals.

Haven’t you heard? PoHE is back for the Spring of 2025!

HSAB is delighted to announce that PoHE will be back at UC Berkeley this Spring of 2025! PoHE is a 3-day, 2-night program filled with activities, workshops, and enriching experiences. PoHE emphasizes the importance of higher education in the Hmong community and being able to build a community that supports you. This year, we will be focusing on bringing students from Northern and Central parts of California together to build the ever-changing relationship between higher education and oneself. Mentees will also be able to build relationships with other Hmong students of similar backgrounds and be able to build connections with HSAB members.

This year’s theme is “Back To The Future: Sculpting our Future Based on Our Past and Present.” We will be reflecting on the stories of our ancestors and of our own to see how the past affects us today as we continue to achieve greatness. It is one of PoHE’s goals to help students embrace their Hmong American identity. Our own stories are just as important to what makes us who we are and are the main motivations for bringing more Hmong-identifying students into higher education.

PoHE is an all-expenses paid-for trip to the UC Berkeley campus. PoHE will be held from April 11th to April 13th, 2025. Keep your eyes peeled for more information about PoHE. Mentee applications, mentor applications, workshop applications, and more are soon to come!

Please share the following information with high school students, school counselors, and others who you think will be interested in the program.
