Beginning Friday, June 12, Stage 1 Fire Restrictions are expanding to include the upper and lower elevations on the . Southwest Colorado is experiencing extreme drought conditions with hot, dry weather creating a critical fire environment.
Activities prohibited under Stage I restrictions include igniting, building, maintaining, or using a fire (even with charcoal) outside of a permanent metal or concrete fire pit or grate that the Forest Service has installed at its developed recreation sites. The minimum fine for violating campfire restrictions in Stage I on National Forest System Lands is $530.
