In our latest piece for The Palestine Connection, we interviewed New York State Assemblymember Diana Moreno, the new lead sponsor of the Not On Our Dime! Act, to discuss the historic legislation, what’s at stake, and what comes next.
New Yorkers have made it clear: they want their tax dollars invested in faster public transportation and affordable childcare, not in the displacement of Palestinians from their homes.
The Act—first introduced in the New York State Assembly by now-Mayor Zohran Mamdani and in the State Senate by Senator Jabari Brisport in May 2023—ensures that organizations funding illegal war crimes or genocide cannot register as charities and receive tax subsides from New York State.
It also takes an unprecedented step to hold these institutions accountable for their complicity in Israel’s crimes by empowering Palestinians harmed by violence funded by New York-based charities to file lawsuits.
As the January 2027 legislative session approaches, Moreno made clear that the future of this bill depends on all of us. From pressuring elected officials to co sponsor, to joining the coalition, to rejecting AIPAC interference in elections, the public pressure we build is what makes our demands impossible to ignore.
