The Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez will receive a $750,000 funding boost for its Hate Crimes Bureau after borough officials raised concerns earlier this year that the unit lacked the resources needed to investigate and prosecute bias-motivated crimes.

City Council Speaker Julie Menin announced the funding on July 27, saying the investment will help strengthen Brooklyn’s response to hate crimes as antisemitism incidents and other acts of bias continue to impact communities across the city.

“Every New Yorker deserves to live free from fear and hate. As antisemitic incidents and other hate crimes continue to threaten our communities, it is critical that prosecutors have the resources they need,” Menin said. “The City Council is proud to provide this funding.”
