For nearly three decades, Homecrest Community Services has been a trusted resource for older immigrants across Southern Brooklyn, supporting an average of 100 to 200 visitors who walk in for services each day.
This year, Homecrest undertook a formal evaluation of its Safe, Seen & Strong workshop series, a program built on resilience that addresses the intersecting challenges of aging, immigration, language access, and social isolation. Through surveys conducted before and after each workshop, the evaluation measured meaningful shifts in participants’ confidence, awareness, and readiness to act across three core pillars: Safe, Seen, and Strong.
Of the 213 participants who completed the initial survey, 81% reported limited English proficiency, reflecting Homecrest’s intentional focus on older adults who are often excluded from mainstream safety programming.
The findings affirm what decades of community presence have made possible: measurable outcomes built on lasting trust.
