WOW! What a fantastic turnout—around 450 meals were served this year at our Phippsburg Sportsmen’s Association Free Community Thanksgiving Meal. Now that I’ve had a moment to catch my breath, I want to express deep thanks for the incredible support from local businesses, organizations, community members, and the many many volunteers who helped make this event such a tremendous success.

A special thank you to Kim, director of the Bath Area Food Bank, for always contributing what she can; her ongoing generosity is greatly appreciated.

Keith and Lisa Fraser, owners of Fiona’s Restaurant, generously donated and volunteered their time to help with cooking.

Melinda Norko, owner of Lighthouse Community Care, LLC, stepped up without hesitation and paid for our turkeys when our original donor was unable to do so.

Shaw’s Supermarket in Bath agreed to cook all 40 turkeys required this year and donated 20 of them.

Thank you to John Bird, John & Denise Hurd, Bob & Annette Sweeney, Judy Mullins, Mary Nickerson, and the Merry Meeting Gleaners for their donations of squash.

Thanks also go out to Karen Balnis, James Totman, Eden Koehling, Darrell & Sandi Clark, Debbie Young, Elaine Hart, Reggie & Gail Read, and Bert & Liz Wyman for their contributions.

Businesses and Organizations gave generous monetary donations:
• Phippsburg Congressional Church
• Pitman Morrison VFW Post 7738
• Harrington Insurance Agency

Community members made donations as well:
• Martha Silver
• Cullen & Christine Walker
• Adam & Lucy Kernan-Schloss
• Jill Jensen
• Tanya Pratt
• Brian Herr
• Ellen Cooney & Ellen Wi******er
• Joanne Thompson & Thomas Roose
• James (Jimma) Totman
• Deborah & David Gray
• Donald & Joan Logan
• Michael & JoAnne Mallory
• Liz & Bert Wyman
• Ann E Donahue
• David & Linda Powers
• Carol Ann & William Moore
• Theresa Hanna

We extend our sincere appreciation to our dedicated volunteers; approximately 70 individuals contributed their time and effort during the days preceding and on Thanksgiving Day. We also wish to thank everyone who generously donated more than 80 pies this year. Special recognition is given to Tracy Koehling and Liz Wyman for their outstanding contributions.

On behalf of the Phippsburg Sportsmen’s Association, thank you!

Today we shared a new resource to help Maine people find nearby food assistance.

The Maine Food Access Map brings together food pantries, meal sites, WIC clinics, school programs, and other food resources, all in one place.

Please share the link to this new resource and help ensure every Maine person has access to nutritious food.

In response to the SNAP funding crisis, MFFM will continue providing Maine Harvest Bucks at farmers' markets regardless of whether your card has remaining funds.

When you show your EBT card at the Info Booth of any participating farmers' market, you'll receive $15 in Maine Harvest Bucks to spend on fresh produce. You can do this every time you visit the market in the month of November.

Maine Harvest Bucks is our statewide food access program that makes shopping at the farmers' market more affordable, and pays farmers the full retail value for their work.

Normally, when you spend SNAP/EBT at the farmers' market, you earn matching bonus Maine Harvest Bucks. SNAP shoppers are an essential part of the farmers' market community and we will do all we can to support you.

If you still have funds on your EBT card, you can continue spending them, and the regular Maine Harvest Bucks match is still in effect.

Find a list of all currently open participating farmers' markets at https://www.maineharvestbucks.org

Not a SNAP shopper, but want to help? We need you.
Maine Harvest Bucks is a highly efficient, effective food security and farmer support program. It empowers over 30,000 Maine households to eat more fresh, local food, and brings over $750,000 a year in direct, full-value sales to Maine farmers' market vendors. Children shouldn’t be victims of shutdowns.

Starting November 1st, we will provide pizzas for children 12 and under (2 per family, per week) for FREE!

No additional purchase needed. This will be for dine-in or take-out.

We will continue the program until the government shutdown concludes.

Show us proof of I.D. with your SNAP or EBT card and have the child with you. If a parent wants to eat with their child, we will discount your meal by 10%.

The entire Sam’s Team is passionate about helping those within our community with what we can. It is very difficult times for us all , but we hope this will help some families cope.

If you need support accessing food please contact your Case Manager or call 211 for assistance.

Due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) has notified every state - including Maine - that November funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the nation’s largest anti-hunger program, will not be issued at this time.
