Shout out to Joel Behr! It's been a pleasure having you as part of our fire training program!

This morning Call Department member, Firefighter Joel Behr received The Coast Guard Commendation Medal for his role as Executive Petty Officer at the Southwest Harbor station. Among his accolades in his 3 years in that role are revitalizing the Heavy Weather program and piloting the 47 foot motor lifeboat. Under his leadership over 2 million dollars in property and 117 lives were saved. A hearty thank you to FF Behr for his efforts on the coast as well as his countless hours served at the Ellsworth Fire Department. Best of luck at your new station, your brothers and sister will miss you.

🔥🔥🔥More vessel familiarization - today for members of the MMA Fire training crew! Instructors Lindsey Dale, Pamela Perrigo Payson and Scott Helstrom got a safety brief and tour of the vessel from "Captain Mac" Gordon Mac MacArthur.
We are appreciative of the welcome our staff has received from the the ship's crew and look forward to training aboard the vessel with our students when the fall semester begins!

What a pleasure it was to welcome Westport Fire Explorers - Post 774 to Maine Maritime Academy Center for Professional Mariner Development and Maine Maritime Academy today! Coordinated by Ross Cottrell through Discovery Voyage, we were able to share some of the unique aspects of maritime firefighting with the group. The day started with a presentation by Manager of Fire Training Lisa Marks Burton followed by a tour of our fire training gear rooms, building and grounds.
Then it was off to Castine for an excellent tour of the Training Ship State of Maine led by Kelly Gualtieri. We hope we have added to the cadets fire training knowledge and expanded their interest in all things fire!
