Fall Leaf Science Experiment | Fall Leaf Chromatography
This is a simple science activity that shows the hidden colors in leaves and helps kids understand why leaves change colors in the fall.
How It Works:
Leaves have different colors inside them, like green, yellow, and orange. In the fall, the green color (chlorophyll) fades, and the other colors show up. ✨Chromatography✨ is a way to separate these colors so you can see them on paper.
🧷Safety Tips:
Adults Handle Rubbing Alcohol:
Only adults should pour and handle the rubbing alcohol.
Use a Little:
Just use enough alcohol to cover the leaves.
Good Airflow:
Do the activity in a space with fresh air.
No Tasting or Touching:
Remind kids not to touch or taste the alcohol or liquid.
Kid-Friendly Tools:
Use safe tools like plastic spoons and unbreakable jars.
Optional Gear:
Kids can wear aprons or gloves to avoid spills.
Clean Up Right Away:
Throw away the alcohol mixture safely and wash hands after.
