Incident Report: Agricultural Accident

At approximately 10:06 a.m., the Butler/Wilmington Fire Territory was dispatched to the 1400 block of County Road 59 for a reported tractor into power lines.

Engine 33 and Fire 30 responded, and upon arrival, Engine 33 reported one tractor rollover and one silage wagon blocking the roadway.

AEP was requested to the scene emergently due to an energized power line on the ground near the tractor. Once AEP arrived and secured the line, crews located a diesel and hydraulic  leak on the tractor and secured it in a timely manner.

No injuries were reported, and all occupants refused care.

The scene was turned over to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department and the equipment owner. Crews returned to service shortly after noon.

Road Closure Notice

Per the railroad company, the following railroad crossings will be closed through Friday for maintenance and repairs:

* Federal Street
* Erie Street
* County Road 59 & US 6
* County Road 63 & County Road 36

Incident Report: Hazmat 

At approximately 1:36 PM, the Butler/Wilmington Fire Territory was dispatched to the 3900 block of County Road 59 for a reported ruptured gas line inside a NIPSCO substation. Engine 33, Command 30, and Tanker 35 responded to the incident.

Upon arrival, crews encountered an audible gas leak and unified with on-scene gas company personnel to assess the situation and develop an action plan.

Engine 33 deployed a handline as a safety precaution while firefighters made entry and secured the ruptured line under the direction of gas company representatives. The incident was brought under control without further complications, and all units returned to service with no reported injuries.

While crews were operating at this incident, a second call was dispatched requesting station coverage for the Edgerton Fire Department during a prolonged incident. On station callback personnel handled the assignment without issue. No injuries were reported.

South Broadway tracks currently have a Norfolk & Southern train stopped. Train is being held until a relief crew arrives from Toledo, OH.

They are stopped due to complications with the Norfolk & Southern/CSX Junction.
