Halloween Movie Special - TONIGHT, Friday, October 30 at 6:30 at the MCCC

“The Haunting” Robert Wise’s 1963 thriller, will be the Halloween special at the Maple Corner Community Center tonight, Friday, October 30, at 6:30. The film is based on Shirley Jackson’s 1959 novel, “The Haunting of Hill House;” a group of people are invited by a doctor to examine odd phenomena at a sinister mansion. It stars Julie Harris, Claire Bloom, and Russ Tamblyn. The Guardian called it “one of the scariest films ever made, sixty years later...a masterclass in psychological horror that relies on eerie sound design, disorienting camera angles, and suggestion rather than cheap jump scares.”

Rick Winston will introduce the film and lead a discussion afterwards.
Admission is $5-10 at the door.

Film Series with Rick Winston - TONIGHT Friday, October 9 at 6:30 p.m.

What better way to celebrate autumn than a showing of Alfred Hitchcock’s delightful 1955 comedy, “The Trouble With Harry”?

It will open the Maple Corner Community Center’s Fall Film Series on Friday, October 9 at 6:30. The film, which stars John Forsythe and Shirley MacLaine in her debut, was shot partially in Craftsbury Common, and tells the story of three Vermont neighbors who each think they are responsible for the death of the mysterious Harry. Before the end of the day, Harry’s body has been buried and dug up several times. Though it flopped disastrously when it opened, over the years it has gained a reputation as one of Hitchcock’s understated masterpieces.

Rick Winston will introduce the film and lead a discussion afterwards.

Admission is $5-10 at the door.
