“It’s been a week since the start of the Be The Difference conference and we already want to go back!!”
The Denise Amber Lee Foundation along with The Healthy Dispatcher put on a phenomenal conference with a multitude of amazing speakers! And the message truly hit to the heart for sure.
If you’re unfamiliar with the story, in 2008 in North Port Florida, Denise Lee was kidnapped from her home. Ultimately, Denise lost her life to this horrible monster. During this tragic event, there was failure on the 911 side of things that had they not happened, Denise could very well be here today.
Nathan, Denise’s husband, has taken this unimaginable tragedy and used this foundation to pursue the improvement of 911 across the nation. Working to improve the culture, the training, and battling complacency within the 911 environment.
In September, an opportunity to obtain a scholarship to the conference was posted. There was several questions to answer, but along with that you had to submit a video of “What is your why”. A short 90 second video of why you want to Be the Difference.
So our Training Coordinator, Lt Macey Silvers, submitted her application and her video. In November, she received the email explaining that she was one of the chosen scholarship winners! She was over the moon, needless to say.
“I cannot explain how amazing this conference was. I truly learned an amazing amount of information and I know that I’m going to be able to bring back so much to our center. I also learned many things about myself as well. As a leader, as mentor, and as a friend. These classes and these instructors were absolutely where they needed to be during this time. The whole time I was just thinking ‘Wow I really want to bring everyone here to hear the speeches and feel the same sense of excitement that I’m feeling!’ I am determined to make it back next year and find a way to bring more with me. The message that the foundation stands behind is one that truly needs to be pushed. I am excited to bring back what I learned and to help pass that knowledge along to improve and be better.  I truly want us to be the best center around! Overall, I want us to show that we can be the difference!” —Lt. Macey Silvers
