DRY CONDITIONS = INCREASED BRUSH FIRE RISK

It may feel like fall, but our fields, woods, leaves, and brush are dry—and that means fires can start and spread quickly.

Brush fires are a growing concern during dry conditions. A small fire can quickly get out of control, threatening homes, outbuildings, vehicles, and nearby wooded areas.

Help prevent brush fires:

* Avoid burning leaves, brush, or other yard debris when conditions are dry or windy.
* Never leave a fire unattended.
* Keep fires away from dry grass, leaves, and wooded areas.
* Properly dispose of ci******es and other smoking materials.
* Make sure campfires and outdoor fires are completely extinguished before leaving.
* Check current local burn restrictions before burning anything.

A few minutes of prevention can prevent hours of firefighting—and potentially save lives and property.

Please use caution, stay alert, and help keep our Washington County communities safe this fall.

If a fire starts to spread, call 911 immediately.

Sure, you’ll learn how to save lives, help your neighbors, and make a difference in your community. ❤️

BUT LET’S TALK ABOUT THE REAL PERKS… 👇

🔥 A nickname you absolutely did NOT choose. And good luck getting anyone to call you by your actual name ever again.

🔥 Jokes and pranks. Congratulations, you’ve just joined a family that apparently never outgrew middle school. Trust nobody. 😂

🔥 FREE TRAINING! Learn new skills, gain confidence, and occasionally discover muscles you didn’t know existed.

🔥 An expensive new outfit! Turnout gear, boots, gloves, hood, helmet… You’ll look fantastic, and you’ll also understand why firefighters don’t shop at the mall for their work clothes. 💸

🔥 3 AM wake-up calls! Forget setting an alarm. Nothing says “good morning” like a pager screaming at you in the middle of your best dream. 😴🚨

🔥 A second family. They’ll tease you, feed you, support you, stand beside you, and show up when you need them most.

🔥 Stories nobody outside the firehouse will ever understand. And some you probably shouldn’t repeat. 🤣

🔥 The chance to make a REAL difference. Because underneath all the jokes, pranks, and questionable nicknames, you’re helping people on some of the hardest days of their lives.

🍂 THE SEASONS ARE CHANGING — IS YOUR HOME FIRE-SAFE? 🔥

Cooler mornings, chilly evenings, and falling temperatures mean many of us are turning to wood-burning stoves, fireplaces, and wood furnaces to keep our homes warm.

Before you light that first fire of the season, take a few minutes to make sure you’re ready!

🪵 WOOD-BURNING FIRE SAFETY CHECKLIST

* Have your chimney inspected and cleaned. Creosote buildup can cause dangerous chimney fires.
* Check your wood stove and fireplace. Look for cracks, damaged components, and signs of wear.
* Burn only seasoned, dry firewood. Never burn trash, cardboard, or treated wood.
* Keep combustibles away. Maintain proper clearance between your stove or fireplace and furniture, curtains, firewood, and other flammable materials.
* Use a sturdy fireplace screen. Keep sparks and embers from escaping into your home.
* Dispose of ashes safely. Place ashes in a covered metal container, away from your home and anything combustible. Ashes can retain heat for days.
* Test your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. Make sure they work and are installed on every level of your home and outside sleeping areas, with smoke alarms inside bedrooms.
* Have an escape plan. Make sure everyone knows two ways out of each room and has an outdoor meeting place.

⚠️ Remember: Never leave a fire unattended, and never use a wood stove or fireplace to burn anything it wasn’t designed to handle.

🍁 As we welcome cooler weather, let’s make sure we’re keeping our families warm and safe.

Fire safety is a year-round responsibility, but every season brings new reminders to check our homes and protect the people we love.
