Morton Township Fire Rescue

Morton Township Fire Rescue Fire Department and Medical First Responder unit. Our fire/rescue department responds to the second highest call volume in the county.

Morton Township Fire/Rescue is the primary fire coverage for Morton and Austin Townships, and the primary medical coverage for Morton Township and areas of Martiny, Colfax, Hinton, and Austin Townships. Our fire department also sends automatic aid to fires for the Wheatland Township Fire Department, Chippewa-Martiny Fire Department, Lakeview Fire Department, Morley Area Fire Department, Colfax Tow

nship Fire Department, and Mecosta Township Fire Department. In 2021, we had 757 calls, in 2020, we had 594 total calls, and in 2019, we had 652 calls. Our fire department has two stations. Station 1 is located in Canadian Lakes and has a meeting/training room, full kitchen, locker room, and gym. It also houses Squad 51, our rescue/mini-pumper fire truck, Engine 1, Tender 1, the 95โ€™ ladder truck, Grass Rig 1, and our cascade trailer used for filling air cylinders at fire and SCUBA scenes. During the day on weekdays, Squad 51 at Station 1 is the first truck to arrive on any scene. Station 2 is located in downtown Mecosta, and this station houses Rescue 2, Engine 2, Grass Rig 2, and Tender 2. The department employs several part-time rescue/firefighters that work every weekday from 7:00AM-4:00PM. In total, the department has 30 members who respond to calls as paid-on-call personnel. There are 14 dual trained rescue/fire personnel, 10 firefighters, and 5 medical personnel on staff. Of the medical personnel, we have one medic, 13 emergency medical technicians, and 3 medical first responders. The department is always looking for able-bodied volunteers- no training required! Yesterday was a fun day spreading some girl power!

We got to celebrate Cassidy and Karolyn's successful completion of Fire 1&2 during last night's training. We're so proud of them for passing the state practical and written exams after eight months of classes and hard work.

We also got to meet up with the Mecosta Elementary girl scouts chapter to look at the big trucks, answer questions, and talk fire safety. The sweet treats they left us were a welcomed bonus. Thank you to their leadership for encouraging young girls' interest in the fire service!
