Today, our Training Captain, Brad Martin, led a hands-on Training at Station 1 with all of our members using a specialized prop built by Captain Martin himself. The “Denver Drill” honors Engineer Mark Languardt who died during fire and rescue efforts at a Commercial Structure Fire incident in Denver, Colorado on September 28th, 1992.

We wanted to say a big THANK YOU to Drew, one of the managers, and the whole Schnucks family for their donation of SEVERAL cases of drinks. Summer is hard time for our firefighters to stay hydrated and your donation helps immensely.

We appreciate the support from Schnucks and the entire community. It helps keep our firefighters safe and hydrated!

We are excited to have transitioned to using all Fluorine-Free Foam (F3), which is much more environmentally friendly and safer for our firefighters!

Crews have been training this month on how to use this new foam concentrate for instances like fuel spill fires where the application of traditional water doesn’t extinguish the fire.

It is with heavy hearts that the Cape Girardeau Fire Department announces the passing of retired Deputy Chief Greg Hecht.

Greg served our department from January 2021 to April 2026, holding the roles of Battalion Chief/Fire Marshal and Deputy Chief. Those who worked alongside him remember him as a man of quiet humility, whose consistent optimism and ability to find good in any situation brought light to even the most difficult days.

Greg was deeply dedicated to the craft of firefighting and to lifelong learning. He pursued that dedication through continued education at the National Fire Academy, a place he had come to love as a source of renewal and inspiration for his calling. Above all, Greg believed in leading by example, and he carried that principle with him daily throughout his career.

Greg leaves a legacy of strength, humility, and unwavering commitment to those he served alongside and those he protected.

We ask that you keep the Hecht family in your thoughts and prayers during this time of loss. Though we grieve his passing, we also honor a life well lived: one dedicated to service, growth, and the wellbeing of others.

Until we meet again, rest in peace Deputy Chief Hecht.

What may seem as a routine, monotonous task, tells a lot about a fire department’s pride and ownership.

We are so proud of A Platoon for showing pride in their apparatus today and making their 1,000 feet of Large Diameter Hose (for water supply), perfectly organized on Engine 1!

Yet another great example of our department’s motto:
“Not for self, but for all since 1866.”
