Good afternoon!

Afternoon rain and brief thunderstorms possible in the north this evening. Potential for another round of thunderstorms areawide on Thursday. Instability is more favorable for a strong storm or two to move through the region on Thursday. Primary threats will be lightning and gusty winds.

For this upcoming weekend, high pressure builds in, with seasonable temperatures. Dry on Saturday, and potential for some rain showers Sunday evening.

Here in Caribou the sun will be 28% covered and 24% for Bangor. When you look at the sun, with eye protection, It will cover the "top" of the disk.

Good Wednesday Morning,

Skies start out mostly sunny this morning before clouding up over the north this afternoon and bringing a slight chance for a shower or storm. Downeast areas will remain mostly sunny today. Temperatures will be similar to yesterday but it will be slightly less humid.

The next chance for showers and storms will be on Thursday, however this will do little to relieve the dry conditions. High pressure is expected this weekend and will likely exacerbate dry soils. Another system will bring rain and storms to the area early in the week but widespread wetting rain is not expected.

Good Tuesday morning,

Showers and storms will move across the north this morning with another round expected this afternoon. Temperatures will rise into the 70s over the north and climb into the lower 80s Downeast.

After a brief break on Wednesday, another round of showers and storms is expected to round out the week. Friday will be the coolest day of the week with highs only in the 60s north and mid-upper 70s Downeast.

High pressure will build in for the weekend with slightly below normal temperatures across the north and near normal temperatures for Downeast.

Good afternoon! Isolated showers and thunderstorms expected this evening. Showers and thunderstorms are more likely tonight after midnight. For Tuesday, cooler temperatures begin with another round of isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms. Wednesday should see clearing skies and seasonal temps. Thursday is leaning towards a strong thunderstorm day; however, models are in disagreement with the amount and intensity.

This Wednesday, August 12, there will be a solar eclipse within the Northern Hemisphere. Though the path of totality will miss the United States, our forecast area will experience a partial solar eclipse during this time! At its peak, about 20 to 30 percent of the sun will be covered by the moon in our area. The eclipse will begin shortly before 1 PM, peak shortly before 2 PM, and end just before 3 PM Wednesday afternoon.

The current forecast in our area is favorable for eclipse viewing, with mostly clear skies into the early afternoon and seasonable temperatures in the mid 70s to lower 80s. Clouds may be building at this time, but any rain showers will be isolated at eclipse time.

Stay safe! NEVER look directly at the sun. Since the sun will never be completely blocked in our area, proper eye protection is necessary during the entire event. If you wish to directly observe the partial eclipse, you MUST look through safe solar viewing glasses ("eclipse glasses") or a safe handheld solar viewer at all times. Today will be the warmest day of the week, with some isolated showers and thunderstorms possible across the north this afternoon. Scattered to numerous storms tonight, with locally heavy rainfall possible. Seasonably mild Tuesday, with scattered storms across the North - some possibly with strong gusty winds. After a mild and sunny day Wednesday, unsettled weather returns with cooler temperatures for Thursday and Friday.
